Great Program Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This one is a keeper, the bandmaps and dx cluster are great, you have a clearer picture of activity with this one,

Can't beat this one, hands down the best

Great software Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Holy smoke...it's been almost two years since anyone has taken time to review Logger here on eHam.

Perhaps I'm not the best person to do that, but I am willing to go out on a limb and share a few thoughts and realities.

First. I have used several other contest software packages...some free, some for bux...over the past few years that I've been contesting since we got computers in our shacks anyway. Not only is Logger free, it's just simply outstanding!

Second. THE MOST important feature of any software, save the design and execution, is the support one recieves. Not only do the author(s) belong to the reflector, the help there is present and always polite and helpful. Are there any problems with Logger...oh, a few minor ones...but unlike some reflectors, almost everything is positive, constructive and helpful. Not only that, but the archives for the reflector are vast. (OK sometimes that's a problem, but a current post will usually be answered quickly and accurately within minutes.)

Third. While the manual is extensive (356 pages at last report) it is well written, well organized, and accurate. You don't have to read the whole thing, because the menu system takes you very close to your question or technical support point. Sometimes it gets a bit too technical, but it's not that hard to figure it out.

Fourth. You can get it running intuitively. By that I mean, even a first timer can probably get a rig on the air on cw or even rtty with little or no support. The quick start stuff gets you going pretty easily.

So, am I sold on it? You bet. I use if for every contest, hour after hour it works perfectly. It support all the contest I want to work, and many, many more. My previous experience, for bux, with a well known competitor was a nightmare. Logger took off the first time and has worked well for me now for several years. I'm very pleased with it.

So...not to effusive, I hope, but I am sold on this monumental free program. Go ahead, give it a try. Be sure to read the start-up instructions and load the base program first before downloading and running the current update. It's fun, it's easy, and you'll enjoy it, I'm sure.

Good luck in the contests, and please work me!

Best contest software at any price! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.

More of a DX'er than a pure contester...but do
enjoy the contests a lot. Work mostly in S&P
mode.

This weekend's ARRL DX Phone contest was my first
real workout with the software. Without ever
cracking the instruction book, I was able to
use the software easily--and it made operating
the contest a real joy. Picked up some
new countries and avoided any of those
nasty "sorry, OM, we've worked before"
calls.

Also I found that it allowed me to give
an extra contact or two out to the contest
super stations...like during the brief
10 meter opening on Sunday. Before, I would
have paused to check for DUPEs before calling,
with the N1MM software you know that it's
a good contact.

Easy generation of both AIDF and Cab files
afterwards. My main logging program is
ACLog which is also great, but not
as well suited for contest operation.

Used the voice keyer function throughout
the contest with great success...it
interfaces well with MMTTY for RTTY
software, etc.

My only "wish list" items would be
interfacing with CW Type software
and Digipan for PSK31. Otherwise,
what's not to love?

Les Rayburn, N1LF

Great documentation Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Yesterday, thanks to N1MM, I e-mailed my first electronic contest log to ARRL. I'm definitely more of a DX'er than a contester, and prefer to operate S & P style. Several years ago, I purchased a DOS based contest program, but the documentation was clear as mud and I never did get it going. Meanwhile, I've dabbled in contests but it's been nearly 13 years since I've actually sent in a log.

I use DXBase 2005, a fabulous program for general logging and awards tracking, but somewhat clunky for contesting. A couple of months ago, I downloaded the free N1MM Logger and took the time to print the well-indexed instruction manual that comes with it (nearly 300 pages).

I used it in the ARRL CW DX contest and am extremely pleased. I logged parts of the contest with DXBase and parts with N1MM, so I got plenty of practice using the ADIF import and export features of both programs. (These worked without a hitch). Both programs support the K1EL WinKey for CW operation.

Contesting was a pleasure with N1MM identifying new multipliers and blocking duplicate QSO's. The rig control features are great, since I have my Omni VI setup for a fine tuning rate, and N1MM helps me get to the other end of the band quickly. I like using the "F" keys to send my call and the contest exchange-- works much faster than pointing and clicking the mouse.

When the contest was over, I turned to the instruction manual, which gave clear concise instructions on how to create a Cabrillo log file and how to send it to ARRL. It was a piece of cake!

N1MM's web site is as user friendly as the instruction manual.

Great Contest Logging Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Well the firt thing is it is free. The second it works great with my radio. It is not the easiest to use but is very reliable and does come with a PDF manual. I still have not set up the keyer interface but it does work for RTTY.

I also like that bugs are fixed at a regular rate and it supports almost every contest. I am going to set it up for feild day this next year and try it out in multi use mode.

The other good part is the graphical frequency display on the side. It is nice to see where you left off on the band and the ablility to mark that pile to work later.

Fine Features Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I'm new to contesting, the comming CQWW SSB contest will be my first. Looked at tools to help during contesting. Via the Internet, I'm allways look at free/shareware first, I found the N1MM website.
Had some problems getting a stable installation, but after (!, a'm a technician, so trail and error first) reading the instructions and implementing the updates it's runs really well.
Bandplan, ease of input, multiVFO, fine interface.
What a great job, thanks to all developers for a fine freeware program. Would not mind paying a shareware fee for an ap. of this quality.
Looking forward to my first contest.

Fine dedicated contest logger Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I moved to N1MM's Logger from YPLog. It has a great bandplan implementation and support for Winkey, which sold me on using it. I've used it seriously in 2 contests and unfortunately had program problems in both. Fixes arrived fast and furious, indeed, at times, hourly, but I was able to successfully complete the contests, apply the fixes, then submit the scores. New revisions are released almost daily to correct bugs, so support is virtually instantaneous, albeit somewhat random at times. Considering many users are the big multi-multi stations with their own special requirements, little pistols like me are not greatly affected by many of the discovered obscure bugs. As Logger is a freeware product, specifically designed for the contest environment and the level of commitment in improving and bugfixing the product is second to none, it is impossible to fault it. I'm very happy with Logger, especially after wasting $50 on YPLog which has no support whatsoever.

Great user group and software Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The combination of this program and the comments of all on the reflector, has taught me more about contesting than any other source. The open discussion regularly illustrates how the program is being or could be used. And then along comes an explanation of what might be possible and a discussion of how it may be used that is accessible to a newby. When I have asked questions, I often get several useful replies and often get a bit extra that helps me understand how to get more out of the software and my station, and help me improve my scores.

Thanks to you all. An amazing group.

The Winner and Still Champion Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have used TRLOG and WriteLog for contest logging programs. I even looked at this prgram years ago. I just paid my upgrade fee for WriteLog 1 week ago, I tried this one again and am converted. Why is that true?

1. Ease of use is vastly superior to any contest logger I have ever used. The interface is clean, it is standard windows, it works.

2. ESM (Enter Sends Messages) Mode, With ESM you can make a QSO without ever having to touch the function keys, just pressing enter. Yes this program does all that TRLOG did and more. It also includes free form exchange entry in at least the November SS. This means you can enter the exchange in any order and the program sorts it out. Only TRLOG did this and TRLOG is dead, it is DOS.

3. An AMAZING manual in PDF. This is where many programs fall short. This one does not. It is like QSL is the last courtesy of a QSO, well a GOOD , CLEARLY WRITTEN , and COMPLTEE manual is the last courtesy of a well written program.

4. The support is also amazing. Both the author and the Yahoo group provide QUICK answers to problems. This is vastly superior to all of the other contesting programs.

5. From what I can tell the program design is superior. It seems from what I can see to be done in such a manner as to minimize defects and maximize the ability to make changes.

6. Great support for dual VFO. Something that WriteLog still has nto gotten down.

7. Netwrok support for 16 machines!

8. It is free but I would gladly have paid.

If you still are looking for a contest logger and want to get the best QSO rate you have ever had, look at this program. You will not be sorry!

I am often giving N1MMLogger as an example of modern software programming techniques to hamlets and students of computer science...
