Really good antenna - punches above its weight! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have been using the BOLPA 10 from Innovantennas for about 4 months. I can say that it greatly exceeded my expectation for a Log Periodic Array. I have always thought of LPA’s as being very broad-banded, but lacking in forward gain and front/back ratio if compared to a equivalent size Yagi. This has not been my experience. I believe that the most likely explanation for this good gain and F/B performance is that the antenna is, as the name Band Optimised Log Periodic Array suggests... ‘optimised’ for the amateur bands. Unlike other LPA’s I have seen, the element spacings do not increment evenly or in ever reducing steps, neither do the element lengths increment evenly either. I believe that the drive arrangement is also another source of efficiency…. 50 ohm coaxial cable, 1:1 balun and 50ohm (or very near to) boom impedance.

I have had four different HF directional antennas on the same tower over the past 20 years or so, all with longer booms; firstly a Force 2 C31-XR, then a 4 element SteppIR, after that a rather large 6 Element DX UltraBeam. I can honestly say that I am not aware of feeling ‘under-gunned’ when using the BOLPA-10. Moreover, due to its much lower wind-loading, I can leave the antenna fully raised at the windiest times without fear of damage.

A relatively minor downside has been that it is an ongoing project to tune the antenna for a lower VSWR than it provided as originally built on the 20m band. As supplied the VSWR was 1:1.7. Adjusting the boom spacing to alter impedance is producing encouraging results.

outstandig performance Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I placed an order with Justin in late febuary and not long after the antenna arrived. the antenna was quite easy to assemble. and the instructions were simple to follow. I have now been using it a few weeks now and I are VERY impressed with the overall results. its quite a large antenna and the build quality of the antenna is good..
keep up the good work innovantennas its a great antenna.. thanks..
