software is elusive Time Owned: more than 12 months.

output transistors may burn out, but can be found to replace them.
long-winded Friends who used it say radio gets hot fast, replaced their output mosfets that burned out, also one friend says his swr sux on vhf but is great on murs, but i think that's hisantenna's fault

i mostly use my yaesu 2980r now, tried the Alinco 185 85 watt vhf only too, gave it to that friend because buttons on mic confused me

-------------
hated until I found software
here is software
rt systems is software i used mostly because i could copy paste freqs from yaesu 2980r rt systems software etc

====

the chinese software links

(my email won't let me send zip or rar files thinking they may be viruses i suppose)

sometimes they start in chinese, so in menu think second drop down from the right selects language

https://www.qytradio.com/

downloads, page 2 is 256 channel newer model (original model was only 200 channel its on page 1)

https://www.qytradio.com/category/downloads/1_2

https://www.qytradio.com/uploadfile/downloads/780PLUS_VHF_E_CPS(256CH_VIP).rar

the included cd only had the software for 4 band radios like kt7900D 8900D etc
rt systems inclueds both the 200ch and the 256ch programming software but refused to recognize mid
power 45 watts and only allowed high or low at first.

The 200 channel software from QYT easily found everywhere on Internet (and sent out buy the sellers of the radios) doesn't work at all on newer 256 channel 780Plus

included CD has wrong software (for 4 band radios 8900D 7900D) not working on 780Plus

But I found the 256 channel 780Plus software in English and Chinese and they DO work (Chinese is a bunch of question marks for font letters)
------------------------------
here is where I got working software 256 memory version in English links may or may not still work

kt780_vip_cps 256ch
and
kt-780plus_tft_cps 256ch version

now it's a great radio I bought three more to use half/mid power 45-50 watt usually and full 95-100 if needed

one other confusing thing was the v/m will need to be pressed for all four VFOs to show channel names on all 4 vfos if you program to show name instead of frequency. Takes a day to learn it but it seems like a decent radio now (I also like the 75 watt KT980Plus, screen isnt as pretty as 780 and the 980plus has no mid power, it's 75 watts or 30-ish)

False Advertizement Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
100 Watt Radio more like 50 Watt Radio.
I purchased this radio because it advertised 100Watts well the meter test determined that that was a lie

well I connected up my meter and got 52 Watts output on 146.52. I tried 3 different repeaters and I averaged between 42-68 Watts No where near the 100 Watts this radio claims. I returned it because its false advertisement.

Two other items of note.
1. This was the 256 Memory verison
2. Programming this radio sucks I hope you have a week to program because its a nightmare

Still figuring it out Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought for $157 on Amazon.com
Let me start off with this: The manual is useless. The first, and apparently very important step to saving a channel is wrong. I am still not sure what the instruction should be, but changing the color (MENU 44) apparently is not it.

Pros:
+Monitor up to 4 frequencies at a time
+100w
+Solid. This feels rugged

Cons:
-The Manual
-Volume/Power button rubs on dust cover of sp/mic port
-No included programming cable
-Mount holes not quite lined up with radio. only able to use 3 of 4 screws.

I will update this as I get more familiar with the radio.

*Rugged Radio is selling the RM100, a rebadged version in white, with a downgraded non-dtmf speaker mic for an impressive 450% markup over Amazon. That must be some damn good paint. They also want $45 to sell you the dtmf sp/mic that comes with it. Yay for greed!
