Rock-solid radio, limited features for hams, no support Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Pros: Rugged and not at all cheap feeling. Hytera's commercial radio heritage is evident in the build quality. Good solid RF performance, superheterodyne receiver, good audio on receive and transmit, no lock-ups, dependable as the sun rising in the east, resistant to water, dust and drops. Battery life is good.

Cons: Limited channel capacity. This feels like a Part 90 radio adapted to amateur frequencies, because it is. That's good (see Pros section above) and bad. Since disappearing from HRO's site, I can't find updated CPS or firmware online. The radio is still listed on Hytera's website as the AR482Gi, but there's no links to the latest CPS or firmware. In the Part 90 world, customers are used to getting CPS through the dealer, and that appears to be the order of business here.

Mnor cons: A bit too much orange color on the body of radio for my tastes. I'd prefer an LCD screen with timed backlight, rather than the monochrome OLED display which goes completely dark upon display time-out.

In summary, it feels like Hytera become interested in amateur radio in 2018, then lost interest. Which is too bad, because this is a good radio and I'd love to see a follow-on model. I'm just glad the original firmware on the AR482G is stable and I don't feel like the radio is lacking anything but perhaps some additional channel capacity.

No support! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I agree with the previous poster. As a ham radio this one is pretty basic. The support is NON existent so you are totally on your own in regards to any questions. I will keep mine and use it as a monitor only. My recommendation would be to look elsewhere.

Not one useful feature for a ham Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Missing all useful features for hams that are included in MD-380 tools firmware, and has many sub par features. Has a built in EQ for the audio but, you can only turn it on for either your TX audio, or your RX audio. You cannot turn it on for both at the same time. So, if your TX audio sounds superior, you will be stuck with just ok RX TYT quality audio, and vice-versa. This idiotic limitation is confirmed by the help menu in the CPS program. Compared side by side with MD390, the build quality and toughness of the case is not one bit better. Not supported at all by Hytera, no online manual, you can only download codeplug program from HRO. No promiscuous mode, not able to change talkgroup from the keypad on the fly, no changing DMR ID on the fly, no ability to download DMR database for the "caller id" effect. Has a fragile SMA Male antenna connector on the radio. I wonder what is different on this radio compared to a regular commercial Hytera, as I do not see one useful special feature that a ham would use. The only positive thing about this radio is the easy to use CPS program, with a built in help system at the bottom of the screen that explains every possible option as you go along. It does come with GPS and Bluetooth, but you must enable each in the CPS. I am returning for a refund tomorrow.

Great radio to start in DMR. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I got to play with one at the HRO booth at the Dayton [Xenia] Hamvention. It is the ham radio version of a commercial Hytera that costs twice as much. For the price, you get plenty of features in this quality radio. It is not one of the new breed of Chinese throw away radios. Hytera has a factory importer in Miramar Florida where factory service is offered. Since it is sold by HRO as a ham radio, it works on ham freq's. Hytera is used by Gov't agencies all over the world, & their quality speaks for itself. Yes, it does cost more than a CCR, but it is a far superior radio. While I do not own this particular radio, I have owned a Hytera PD-782 for 3 years. I feel if a Motorola is too pricey, the next best radio is Hytera.

Nice Radio; Accessories Extra; Not Overly Impressed For The $$$ Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Greetings, I recently had an opportunity to play with this new analog/digital HT while traveling near an HRO store. Soon after I decided to purchase one. First the radio is well built and comes with the charger base, antenna, battery and programming cable. The software is available on the web and work pretty much like most DMR software. What I was surprised to find out is that the GPS and Blue Tooth apparently are options!! Kinda odd considering the price tag on this rig. Also, the operating manual is terrible; small black print on a brown paper bag material. Had to run it through the copier to make it readable. The Hytera web site is terrible too. No easy way to contact these folks. Programming was pretty straight forward and first report say it sounds nice on the air. One might however want to look at some of the other companies before shelling out over $300 for a single band (UHF) HT that won't even cover Public Service. 73, Doug KG3i
