Great - but . . . Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I own two. Perfect in all but two respects.
1. I miss the V/V and U/U capability
2. After a couple of years, both units have developed a long hang time problem when warm. Let the key go and they will still transmit for 2-5 seconds. Haven't found the problem yet.

Hands Down, My Favorite Radio! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This radio is definately my favorite radio by far.. Xband repeat, dual recieve, easy to read display, a million and two functions, Video monitor, and perfect audio.. just to name a few things that make this rig good.

The manual is your best friend on this radio, I picked up the rig used from a local communications shop, and the manual was missing, I couldnt figure out the CTCSS function, so a quick return back to the shop, and a photocopy of one of their books, and I was off and running!

This rig also has probably the best selectivity of any VHF/UHF rig i have ever used!

The only thing i wish it had was VHF/VHF and UHF/UHF, but everything else in the rig makes up for it :)

If you have the opportunity to get this rig, do it without delay!

Great Radio! - Sorry to see it discontinued Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've always liked the 2800H, but I found it hard to justify the steep price tag it was getting. Since the announcement of it being discontinued, I was able to pick one up new for ~$425.00. It has GREAT ICOM Tx and Rx audio and I ALWAYS get great Tx audio reports. The 3" TFT display is something to be careful about protecting. It's very easy to read, except as you would expect in direct sunlight. I understand that it is expensive and difficult to replace. I love the TRUE v/u dual receive/scan feature and after reading some of the reviews for other manufacturer dual receive radio's, I'm glad that I got the 2800H. Remember this is a v/u only and not a v/v or u/u radio (if it really matters to you, but it didn't to me). If you've owned a 207H like I have, you'll immediately recognize the programming menus. It took no time at all to program 25 or so repeaters (10 min). In my mind, unless you absolutely cannot deal with ICOM's menu layout, there is no need for the programming software/cable. I don't miss it a bit.

Icom Ic 28000h vhf/uhf mobile Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have had the radio now for the last 6 months and my friend had it from new.
It has been no problem what so ever
Very easy to use!!
This is one of the best radio`s I have had, it will take some beating. Four power outputs 50/35
20/20 10/10 5/5
Exerlent for homebase or mobile
The only thing that I think it is lacking is the front pannel can not be attached to the front for home use but that is neither here or there.
I just made a bracket to hold the pannel.
Tx & Rx has been opend up! Rx is very good on all bands.
I would be interested if anyone has had any problems ???

Great Rig! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've had this rig about three months now, and I love it. I did have a problem with it when it was first purchased. It ran into a problem where it refused to power up. The folks at the local HAM store here in Houston bent over backwards to get a replacement for me, and the replacement has worked without a hitch. It's difficult to learn to program, but all of the quirks actually make sense to me (so I'm a geek, what can I say?) I get great audio reports, and the 20dB attenuator is great for going through intermod alley. This rig does get a lot of intermode in comparison to my old IC 2000H, but this rig has kept me a loyal Icom customer! It's a pricey rig, but it was worth it to me...

Awesome radio ! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just bought mine on closeout from AES milwuakee, and it's been great. Been putting it through the grinder since day one and it works great ! Love the display. Got around the mic cord issue with an old Motorola 3 watt cell phone kit we had laying around.

Great internal speaker. It aint no Motorola but it's the best damned internal speaker I have heard in a ham rig in a long time.

Goodbye Kenwood 742, hello Icom.

Excellent after 3 years Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Have had the 2800 for nearly 3 years. On my first review I gave it a 4. This review is a 5 so the ave. will be 4.5. Very helpful having the speaker in the control head. Although the speaker tends to rattle a bit, it is sufficient that I have not had to use an external speaker. I do like the fact that the mic. does not attach to the control head; one less cord to deal with when mounting the head on the dash. Have had some problems with a "cycling" problem when cross band repeat is used. Thus, cannot give it an overall rating of 5. Do have some intermod., but no more than most other radios in "intermod. alleys". Would be interesting to compare with new IC-2720 and FT-8900.

Great rig my 2nd Icom and no complaints. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I found the ic-2800 to be just fine.. It did exaclty what I wanted. The intermod is not a problem as it has a built in attenuator. I solved the problem of the mic connector not on the head. (5 bucks at comp usa for a straight through cat 5 cable and a cat 5e coupler). I mounted it on a cell phone arm on the hump of my truck and set the brightness to a happy medium so that it doesn't bother me at night or in the daytime. I shopped for a year and a half before buying it. I did find that all units have a down fall of some sort.. This one just had the least. I would recomend it in a heartbeat.

Great, except for UI Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I pretty much like the radio, except for the rediculous user interface. They could have made it easier to program. Intermod is a slight problem, but thats expected in most radios. The display is way too bright for night driving, or even for use at home in the dark. Audio is excellent, as well as recieve sensitivity. The display runs a bit hot for my liking. The microphone should have been connected to the control unit.

great rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The radio is pretty good, I have had good audio reports, no intermod problems (attached to Diamond SG7500 antenna). The screen looks very nice, but the interface needs some work. The mic that comes with it helps out a lot, but I hope they re-design the interface a bit if they use this technology in future radios.

It doesn't do VHF/VHF, UHF/UHF, which i've gotten used to on other radio's, and a lot of people complain aboutthe mic-connector location (while i find it to be ok). Note that you can make this cable with cat5 and some crimpers, and don't need to lay down $80+ for a prefab one.

The independant knobs for each band are also very nice.
