Review Summary For : Piexx - ICOMPROM ICOM Non-Volatile RAM Module
Reviews: 4MSRP: 70.00
Description:
If you have a Icom IC-751 or IC-751A transceiver you probably know that when the internal battery gets weak the transceiver stops working! PIEXX has corrected this problem with the new ICOMPROM Ram replacement board. The ICOMPROM board is a new, plug compatible, memory module that keeps the important setup information in an onboard non-volatile PROM device while employing a battery backed RAM for saving the memory channel data. With the PIEXX ICOMPROM board you will never need to worry about your transceiver going dead from a low battery again!

This board can be used in the IC-751(A), R-71(A), IC-745, IC-271, IC-471 or IC-1271 radios. If you indicate, in the comments section of the order, which radio you will be using the IcomPROM in, we will set the jumpers for you.
Product is in production

Easy install Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I installed this in a low serial number Icom R71A that had set unused for for about 11 years. It stiill worked, and had the ORIGINAL Icom battery installed. Amazing! Nevertheless I installed the Piexx module. It was an easy installation. I did not trim the connector pins as recommended. Space was tight and I was afraid of losing the clipped pieces in the radio. The board fit securely anyway.

Does what it says on the tin Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have (2) of these boards, both installed into Icom IC-745 HF radios. I had no trouble installing them. Before installing, I did confirm the jumper settings. This is a good solution to the RAM battery issue with these radios.

Works Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I found this on ebay after I found out about the ram board that comes factory installed once the battery dies that's it. I guess there were only 2 left I grabbed one and installed it in my 2 meter radio once I added the jumper and installed at the beginning I had issues because it read hf frequencies after playing with it for a good while I was able to get to read the 144.000 from there on it was a matter of filling in the memory slots even thou it showed hf as soon as I had all the memories filled in it works as it should. BTW I did measure the battery that is on the original board and it still reads 3volts so really not sure if it had that board replaced in its lifetime from its previous owner..

Works, but customer service is pitiful. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Folks kept telling me to get one of these boards to deal with that non-volatile memory from 1983 in my IC-745. I've tried this new ROM board, only to see my IC-745 display 6M FREQ's on it. (Yeah, that rig won't do 6M.) Tried again to have them correct this, and this time received the correctly programmed board, but the jumpers were wrong. I've corrected that one myself. It does work, but wow, what buffoonery! If you should go this way to save your older Icom early 80's rig, hold their noses to the grind stone to be sure that they get it right! Sign of the times? I guess...
