Review Summary For : Repeater Builder STM32 DVM
Reviews: 5MSRP: 85-95
Description:
The RB_STM32_DVM is yet another Multi-Mode Digital Voice Modem that gives new life to analog repeaters by allowing them to become digital capable. The STM32 has an on-board microcomputer, so there is no need for a separate Arduino or other processor board. This board, plus a platform running MMDVMHost is all that is required.
Product is in production

OUTSTANDING Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I had one of these boards from Scott several months ago, got frustrated, sold it. I decided to re-visit the project after further research and decided to give it another try. Wa-La, I am using the board with my Kenwood TKR-850 ver 2 UHF Repeater and it is working like a work horse on steroids. Amazing audio reports, no hiccups, no R2D2 just outstanding. There is so much information available out there on youtube, Facebook group pages and many good people lending a hand to get this board up and running. The board from Scott is definitely worth every penny! KUDOS Scott!

Great board! Great Customer service! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
So what is this board? It's basically a hotspot hat that sits on top of a Pi computer board without the radio section. You use your own radio for a full duplex/repeater or simplex "mega hotspot" with your own radio. You do need to buy a separate Pi to plug this into. I bought a PI 3B at microcenter for $25.

These type products sometimes get a bad review because they are not plug and play so don't expect this one to be either.

I bought this to set up a backyard repeater to use instead of my jumbo spot. I did see a guy use one to tie to a Kenwood TM-V71a as a high power hotspot so this is what I ended up doing. Now I can use my hotspot within a 10 mile radius of my house.

It takes a little more effort than a regular hotspot because all radios are a little different in their configuration. If you get on of these for the same radio I am using drop me a line and I can save you a lot of time.

Let me say the customer service was great! I could not have done this without asking Scott a couple of questions. At least he saved me a lot of time. I called him at 10pm his time and he answered the phone and gladly helped. I also emailed him a couple of times and he quickly answered. This guy is all about helping you make his product work.

In summary this is a well built board that will last me a long time. I wish I had known about this setup before I wasted money on the jumbospot.

STM32 bad product Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
received stm32 modem, found pins that where not soldered, trim pots won't zero, won't talk to pi-star
Don't think any firmware loaded.
Second brand of mmdvm modem I bought both junk.
No documentation crap for customer support.
Avoid this one and micro node products.

Great MMDVM board Time Owned: more than 12 months.
We have 5 MMDVM repeaters currently set up, 4 with the Ver-2 pi-hat boards (Red-boards) and 1 with Ver-3 pi-hat board (Blue-board) they are very easy to set up and have great audio.

Were are running the boards in DMR, D-Star and NXDN.

He also sells the inter-face cables which saves guessing the pin-outs and time.

They have a great customer service and quick response, you can't go wrong

Nice DVM! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just getting started with Digi Modes in the 2m/70cm band and decided to build a High power Hotspot. In a very rural area with NO digital coverage.

This is where the STM32 Steps in.

I purchased the Case, Board and Power Board from Scott Zimmerman at Repeaterbuilder.com

Using his parts I interfaced it to a Kenwood TK-8180K Mobile radio and was off and running! The hardest part was soldering up the cable for interface. Been using this setup for a few weeks now nonstop and its rock solid. Have a Hotspot with a decent coverage area. Going to add a second radio soon and make it a Repeater but for now its working excellent as a high power hotspot.
