An Acceptable 24 foot vertical Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Well, I feel the necessity, after using this antenna since mid-July to update my review. It actually works quite well! Since July 15th, I've worked all states on 3 bands, have worked 82 countries and just over 800 US Counties (yup, I'm a County Hunter, god help me). Works well on 80 through 10, okay on 6m and not at all on 160. Can't get the SWR below 5:1 on 160m. Dunno why. The tuner is supposed to be able to handle it, but doesn't. Would I buy it again? Actually yes, I would.

Given all the negative reviews I'd read, I was pleasantly surprised when I received the antenna 13 days after I'd ordered it. It arrived in early January, the ground had frozen and we ended up waiting until mid-July to install it. There was where the fun began. While the antenna is described as being easy to assemble and install, it is anything but that. The instructions on the website are partial, somewhat incoherent and in several cases didn't match the parts received.

There is no part identification guide, the parts aren't labeled, the packaging the parts come in isn't labelled and it is difficult (near impossible) to figure out how the thing goes together. I was blessed (finally) with the assistance of a fellow ham who owns one, and got it assembled after (reportedly) five tries. He came to the house, assembled the antenna and got it up in just over two and a half hours.

The quality of the parts and the machining appear to be excellent, with two exceptions: there was a burr inside one of the sections that made it difficult to insert the black plastic gizmo that centered the feedline inside the antenna tube; and secondly, no cap was provided for the top of the antenna, so it is an open tube exposed to the elements.

As to performance: the rig in use is a Yaesu FT-991a, using an LDG RT-100 remote tuner at the base of the antenna, with a 1:1 balun. The antenna is advertised as being 160M through 6M. The best match we achieved on 160M was 5.5:1 which renders that basically unusable. From 80 through 6M the match ran between 1.7:1 and 2.0:1 with the exception of 17M which ran at 1.4:1. Since I have nothing much to compare it to, I can say that I think it works pretty well, but not great. Hope you may find this review helpful.

Don't expect much Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
First, I will say the build quality is top-notch. Performance on the other hand is not up to what's claimed. If you work 40m - 6m your set, anything else is not good at all. My install is 4ft off the ground and I have been comparing it to my inverted L which I had thoughts of replacing with this sometime in the future. I live in a HOA in SC and don't have space but I do have some pine tress. I've had a flagpole here for the past 5 years, 40ft high and a wire off the top to a 75ft pine tree. Now if my tree's ever came down, this grayline would be the ticket as long as I don't do much with 160 or 80. For what it is and knowing your not getting any performance on 160 or 80, great antenna. BUt them listing this as a 160m or a 80m antenna is FAR from the truth. I think its a bit overpriced for sure. This would be better at a price point of $750 max. I know what a flagpole cost, so I'm not blindly picking that cost point. So, with that said, let's talk about customer service.

FAIL!!!! After sale customer support is horrible, and thats putting it nicely. I sent them three emails and I also called and left a voice mail. All I heard was back was crickets!! Can't say more other than, so trying to reach them by phone or email after your sale, don't hold your breath!

Great antenna and great customer service! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have had my Greyline 20 " vertical for about 4 months and could not be more pleased with its performance! Assembly was easy and the build quality is excellent. Jon, KL2A has been great to work with and always responded promptly(He even returned a call on the 4th of July!) I live in a deed restricted community and have no trees that I could hang any kind of wire stealth antenna. My previous antenna was a 1/4 wave trap vertical which was barely adequate. The difference in performance is amazing! After a little tweaking(with Jon's input) I was able to achieve 1.8 to 1 or less SWR 80m thru 6M with most bands at 1.5 or less. In the time I have had the antenna, from my QTH (Southwest FL), I have been able to work most European countries including Albania with good reports. Have also worked several SA countries including Brazil and Peru as well as Costa Rica, Belize and Mexico. Have worked many US states including HI & AK on 20 & 17M. I am particularly impressed with the 6M performance. Have worked several of the eastern states as far north as ME and also OK during a couple of sporadic E openings this past summer. My Rig is a TS-890 @ 100 watts. If I can hear them I can generally work them even thru some substantial pileups if I am patient and persistent. Heard a JA last night on 17 but could not quite make the hop. Not bad considering band conditions! All this being said I am only a casual DXer and probably could work some more exotic DX if I really worked at it. At this point I think the Greyline 20' vertical is about as good as I can do antenna-wise considering my restrictions! Hmmm...maybe an amp! LOL
