Best DMR radio on Planet Earth Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The Moto 7550e is absolutely the best DMR HT. Sure, the new breed of CCR's have 150K contacts, & other ham friendly features, but as a radio, they are lacking. The 7550e was designed for commercial users, & works from 403-520 MHz. The 7550e also has a proven dual conversion superhet receiver. The CCR's have a direct conversion receiver. Cheap to make, but an intermod sponge. No better DMR radio exists than the XPR7550e

Not a lot of reviews, and not easy to find a lot of ham-related information. Yes, these are expensive compared to various Chinese DMR/analog radio. Yes, it only does one band (you order either a VHF or UHF radio). Yes, you pay for options, software, and other things. Yes, they have $100 OEM data cables (though a $20 eBay variant works fine).

So why buy a 7550e when you can get an imported handheld that does VHF *and* UHF along with DMR for 1/4th the price? Performance and build quality. I've benchmarked the Moto with comparable Chinese radios and the Moto sounds better on xmit and rcv, and is more stable on DMR conversations. Very few DMR dropouts compared to other radios. The radio is built like a tank, and I know people with Motos that have been dropped, kicked, etc and still work.

Is it worth the money? Your call - price is a number, value is a different calculation. If you want as many features as possible, there are probably better choices. If you like performance and the Moto vibe, the 7550e deserves a look.
