Fits in check luggage! Works for me. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I think that I've been through two of these antennas. I sold the first one before I realilzed that it's the only antenna -- other than a spool of wire & an unun plus feedline -- that would fit in my checked luggage for a trip overseas. Made do with less than this antenna on the trip and ordered the present one the moment I got over jet lag & had retrieved my wife from her overseas adventure.

In all, it ain't a bad antenna. It is tuneable, once you hook it up to a VNA or use the Xiegu G90/X5105 'swr' graph app. The manufacturer provides a chart of telescoper settings but it's better to make your own. And yes, you most definitely will need a counterpoise. Making up a remote spike-in-the-ground stand for it is also helpful. Such devices are available on eBay or you can get the expensive EleCraft version. Either I recommend for your sanity. (I find running antennas right at the radio's BNC connector -- a la KH-1 or KX3 &c -- is counterproductive. The radio just plain doesn't like RF that close to its innards.)

The fact that it crawls into less than 14 (.355m) inches width of space, not counting counterpoise, mounting spike & feedline makes this antenna very attractive for travel/checked luggage POTA trips and the like. It's not as efficient or as successful as a fullsize dipole or even one of the other coil & telescope kits that are 'out there,' but it does work and it will get you contacts. You'll have to work for 'em, sure, but a QSO is a QSO and that's good enough for POTA.

Price is nice too. The erstwhile MFJ offerings -- you do know MFJ's going out of business, right -- is a bit more expensive but is also exactly the same beast. Getting the Gabil version is cost efficient.

So yeah, five stars as an antenna, four stars for performance. YMMV &c.

Works as advertised! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Purchased through Amazon. Documentation could be better, but not bad. A counterpoise is a "MUST." That being said, with the help of an analyzer the tuning was pretty easy. I have only tested it on 20 and 17 meters. However, with 20 watts operating outside, I was able to make contacts. No substitute for a dipole antenna, but quick setups it does the job! I'm a happy customer.

don't expect a miracle Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
this antenna was purchased at a very reasonable price-point (20 percent less) vs MFJ's 1899T.. it is *nearly* the same, and its documentation mimics MFJ's (or visa-versa)...

don't expect a miracle; 25ft of wire up a tree and a 25ft counterpoise will beat this antenna's performance - but for what it is, you can have fun experimenting (it works best with staged counterpoises up to 40m - make sure to elevate the counterpoise!).

instead of a sliding (think MP-1) or tapped (think Lakeview hamstick) coil, this antenna like the MFJ variant, uses a 'wander lead' much like the old Outbacker Joey... you attach the jacks into different ports on the base, then adjust the telescopic whip (which disconnects, btw) for resonance...

i'd suggest using a tuner and counterpoise, then document best settings for your favorite bands...

what's nice is that the antenna separates into two pieces down to 11.5" - this is a bit bigger than Elecraft's AX-1, but much, much lighter than the original MP-1 package...

good for travel, backpacking or casual listening r operating, this antenna is worth the price for its quality construction and fun in experimenting... you can use this for pedestrian mobile with a trailing counterpoise or in places where space is at a premium...

but honestly, throw 63' of wire up a tree if you can - you'll make more contacts
