Review Summary For : Elecraft AXE1 40m Extender
Reviews: 3MSRP: 49.99
Description:
The AXE1 extender allows an Elecraft AX1 whip to be used on 40 and 30 meters. It adds 6 inches (15 cm) of overall length to the antenna. An AX1 with an AXE1 can be attached directly to a hand-held transceiver like the KX2 or KX3, or supported by an Elecraft AXB1 whip bipod for table-top use. The AX1 and AXE1 together break down into 3 pieces, each 6" long, allowing them to fit into a pocket or very small bag such as the Elecraft CS40. NOTE: An antenna tuner is required; the AX1 whip + AXE1 extender is very narrow-banded.

Does what it claims. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
See my full review of the whole AX1 unit. This thing works just like Elecraft claim. I have no complaints at all..

Excellent accessory Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
See my review of the original AX1 on this site. I received the 40 meter extension shortly before the 13 Colonies radio event. I reached every colony station except Virginia [where I live] using this antenna, all on CW with my KX3. My deployment was a tripod on a table, with a feed point at about 6 feet. The stock counterpoise is quite nice, but I could only extend it generally north.

I am entirely amazed that the 40m version works so well. I reached NH and GA from central Virginia, with most points in between. Although I think the 20m is a bit more efficient, as one would naturally expect, the form factor and reliable effectiveness of this antenna combine to make a Must-Carry piece of kit.

Nice addition to my AX1 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I am very pleased with this recent addition to my AX1. After 20 QSOs on 40 meters, and using 5 or 10 Watts (CW) with my KX2 or KX3, distances covered vary from 292 km to 2153 km (average= 770 km). I received good reports from OMs even if the actual RF conditions are often mediocre. I always used the provided counterpoise. Of course, an antenna tuner is a must since the bandwidth is very narrow. But the internal tuners in both rigs had no problem to quickly find the 1:1 match. Solid construction and nice design 'à la Elecraft'.
