It works! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've been looking for a while for a "compromise" 80m antenna to fit my modest-sized suburban lot. This one looked promising, and, inspired by good reviews for other Pro Antennas products, I decided to take a chance. Happy I did. I can now work CW on 80m even though I don't have the real estate for a half-wave dipole or the radials that a vertical requires. The DMV-II is advertised as having an omnidirectional radiation pattern and Tony, the owner, tells me the take-off angle is relatively high, meaning that height above ground of the feed-point is not critical to performance. I have mine mounted on a second floor deck on a tripod mast with the feedpoint about 25 feet up. From my location in east-central Canada, and with power of between 150 and 200 watts, I have had plenty of mid-range contacts up to about 1200 km distant, a couple of North American contacts about 3000 km away, and a couple of contacts in eastern Europe. This suits me just fine as I am pleased to be able to finally operate on 80m. I use it without a tuner. Bandwidth of serviceable SWR is narrow, about 35 kHz - which is to be expected of a shortened antenna, and is fine for me as I stick to the bottom end of the band. The resonant point is easily adjusted by adding/subtracting plug-in wire extensions that come with the antenna. The significant negative (which is why I give it 4 rather than a 5) is that receive performance is poor. Perhaps this is due to something peculiar to my location - can't say. If I didn't also have a Wellbrook active magnetic loop for receiving, I wouldn't be hearing much with this antenna. But on the whole I am happy with it.
