Excellent antenna Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have been using Ant's hex beam for more than 10 years. I started with one of the first versions of him and after a storm, I bought the version with thicker elements and also purchased the wires that prevent the elements from swinging in strong winds and sagging with ice formation. After a few years of doing experiments myself to place a 40 meter element on top of the existing 6 band hex beam, the negative influence of the 40 meter element on the other 6 bands turned out to be too high. Ant has experimented further with my idea and finally came up with the 40 meter kit, where the 40 meter wire, stretched in a W shape, is placed a bit above the 6-band hex by using. extension poles. By measuring the impedance of the design of antony's antenna, it turned out that the bandwidth could be improved with the use of a better tuned balun. In consultation with Antony, I made the balun for him and tested the 40m kit at my place. The result was definitely better than the original design. Measured in the field, the antenna has a swr lower than 1: 1.9 on the entire 40m band (7,000 - 7,200) and has a swr of 1: 105 in the middle of the band. So The antenna can now be used on the entire 40 meter band without a tuner.
Just like the rest of this antenna, the kit is made of excellent, high-quality material, is easy to attach and all parts are made to measure. Of course the antenna is a lot wider (8 meters wide instead of 6.5) and 1 meter higher, so you are aware that in the air the 7 band hex is not too bad in terms of size, but on the ground is a fairly large antenna.
A good tool is the tilt plate, which Ant also sells. This allows you to keep the antenna horizontal when tilting the antenna
I have been using the 40 meter kit for just 8 months now. The results are very good. After years of being able to work only locally and occasionally some dx with my inverted V 40m antenna, I can now easily work DX again. The difference between front and rear saves 5 dB and perpendicular to the antenna the signal saves 10 dB. Are you looking for a 40 meter antenna and do you already have a hex beam? Buy this kit. You will not regret it. The service from anthony is special in this fast-paced world of just selling. He is open to all problems, questions, improvements etc ... and thinks along.
If you start with a new antenna, immediately grab the 7 band antenna
