Review Summary For : Balun Designs 1151 1:1 ATU Current Balun
Reviews: 1MSRP: $68.95
Description:
Rather than a 50 ohm characteristic impedance, this balun utilizes a bifilar pair designed to maximize inter winding breakdown voltage. The balun functions to transform balanced twin lead, ladder line or open wire to unbalanced coaxial feedline while providing high levels of choking impedance to stop common mode currents from entering equipment. The 1151 is ideal for moderate power operations, is lower in overall weight and provides outstanding performance. This balun is also excellent for use installed between a remote auto tuner and multiband antenna to suppress common mode allowing a cleaner more accurate match. 1:1 1 - 54 Mhz 2 KW.

Great Balun for Antenna Tuners Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After reading several articles on the advantages of using a 1:1 current balun in a differential T tuner, I purchased a Balun Designs Model 1151 1:1 ATU Balun to replace the 4:1 current balun in my Palstar AT1KP Tuner. The tuner is used to match a 20M vertical dipole fed with 300 Ohm twin lead on 40 thru 10 meters. The 1151 was mechanically a perfect fit using the existing Palstar mounting hardware. The 1:1 balun reduced RF in the shack considerably over the Palstar 4:1 balun. My Samsung monitor and internet router no longer shut down while transmitting. Although I do not have test equipment to measure tuner efficiency, in theory it should be improved as less inductance is required to achieve a 1:1 match. The decrease in inductance ranged for 42% on 40M to 5% on 10M. No heating was observed while running 400 watts in FT-8 mode.
