A good compact HF professional transceiver Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have this rig since 6 years.
I use it sporadically. I found it nice, it have a good audio DSP built in to enhance voice, auto notch and noise reducer. Theses filters work well.
Three filter (large, normal and narrow) are availables.
It have alsoo an RX preamplifier and attenuator.
The volume is very loud and readable in ever conditions, is possible tu connect an external speaker but the built is very good specially in noisy environment.
The body of transceiver is bigger than another HF mobile transceiver (like 706, FT-100 and others), it have two bigs fan controlled by temperature and ptt.
The display are very simple and readable, the frequency can be changed in VFO mode or entered directly by a numeric keypad if is fitted.
Good modulation, not a "HiFi SSB" but not very tight like other professional transceivers.
The RF power can be setted to 100/50 and 10W.
Is possible to put front panel from out of the body by the properly kit (for a mobile installation f/e). The link câble have 16 wires....
Other many functions are present on the menu and is possible to program the key.
The aluminium frame is loud and well built, one side for the logic board, the other for the RF board, well ventilated from the front to the back.
Is a professional transceiver and it have the basics functions for operate without too manipulations: it's maded to be used by "Mr anybody"!
By software you can store frequencies and create bank memory, all with alphanumeric tags.

The pros:
-relatively compact
-good and loud frontal speaker
-audio DSP simple and performant
-rugged
-two cooling fans assures good ventilation for long time transmit or for high external temperatures.
-readable display in all conditions
-compatible with most Yaesu accessories
-front panel detachable
-good RF power in all bands

The cons:
-FM not possible
-no CW key socket (can be connected internally by an optional kit not supplied but it is possible solder two wires on motherboard and put out a jack)
-no rotary "channel" knob
-no leg for tilt up transceiver
-front panel can be detached by a 16 wire cable, kit are hard to homebrew and is not rapidly reversible
-mounting bracket and keypad mike are an "option" and supplied separately

This is a professional and not an Ham transceiver, it's maded to be simple and performant and to be used by a "non OM" person.
Fortunally for me, I've had the possibility to buy it for a very little price but amateur all band and all mode transceivers are more economic than the VX-1400.
