Amazing workmanship Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This receiver was built between 1950 and 1954. Mine is dated 1953. Eddystone used the best components available, up to a really high standard and not down to a price., Each receiver was “soak tested” for a week before being passed. Consequently, my rig required only one resister and two capacitors to be changed (it was already working fine), and I did that because I thoughtI should. Not bad for a 70 year old receiver! All Eddystones are big and heavy, used mainly for commercial shipping use. It took two of us to lift the thing into the trunk of my car. Eventually, they did make transistorised receivers, but they are only a bit lighter! The front panel is always cast metal and the case very heavy gauge steel. There is always a “swiss watch” tuning mechanism controlled by a lead fly-wheel. Mine is drift-free from switch-on. Tubes are available from ebay and there is a very good Eddystone Users Group. This rig will easily last me another 70 years.
