Review Summary For : mAT-40 Tuner for Yaesu-Icom-Kenwood
Reviews: 4MSRP: 275
Description:
The mAT-40 HF-SSB Automatic Antenna Tuner, lets you rapidly tune any antenna automatically: unbalanced or single-wire. It can be operated by various brands of transmitters by selecting different interface cables, such as ICOM, YAESU, and KENWOOD, just like their own brand tuners. The tuner housing is produced by aluminum milling and oxidation surface technology, beautiful, delicate, compact and firm. It can work well in all kinds of harsh outdoor environments. The maximum size of the tuner is only 20 cm, which is the smallest outdoor antenna tuner now. The mAT-40 also features advanced memory tuning, providing 16000 memory locations. When tuning near a previously used frequency it will recall the settings for nearly instant tuning. It learns your favorite frequencies and bands as you use it. You can also start a tuning cycle manually whenever necessary.

it's OK Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought it about two months ago, with an Icom IC-7100 radio and an ?Icom AH-2B antenna, it works fine at 20m band and above, but on the 40m band it did not work, although the antenna is compatible with the 40m band , and with the long wire it works perfectly and not bad on a 80 and 160m band . I am looking for a way to make it work as I want it, knowing that I use it in the car as a mobile station.

Solid Little Tuner Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought this to replace an SGC-230, which stopped working after several years. Was a little skeptical at first, but because of current COVID-related supply chain issues with many suppliers and after watching the videos on the mAT-TUNER web site, I decided to give it a try. The aluminum housing is solidly built, the connectors, cables, and hardware appear to be quality material. It tunes my Shakespeare HF-120 16' whip antenna from 60m thru 10m (the SGC-230 could tune this antenna from 80m thru 10m), and it tunes a 58' end fed wire from 80 thru 10m with no problems. I'm using an IC-7100 mobile, and the mAT-40-M ICOM interface cable allows the mAT-40 to work just like an ICOM auto tuner: push the 'TUNE' button on the control head to force a tune / re-tune at any time; change bands or frequencies and PTT will re-tune or pull prior settings from one of its 16k memory locations. Tuning is fast, and the match has always been less than 1.5:1, and is usually 1:1. Its tuning range specs are 5 - 1500 ohms (10:1 on the low side, 30:1 on the high side) which is not bad. We'll see how it survives long-term in my vehicle with the temperature and vibration extremes that it will be operating under, but initially I am pleased with the product and the price-point that it is selling for. mAT-TUNER was even willing to make me a custom cable for a reasonable price.

Nice Tuner, but bad, bad support. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought this tuner secondhand. Nice looking and very compact.. The cable for tuner was cut by seller, so he provided how to wire it to get it to work with Yaesu.
I only have Yaesu cable, so I sent an email to support at mAT asking for pin layout/wiring for the different radio brands. Asking about Icom. But they told me to look at Icom AT-120. Well. The Icom plug is not a problem. It is the pin layout on the mAT-40. Bad support.

works with IC-705 Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Hi, just like to give you readers some updates. I've been pleased with the performance using the Yaesu FT-891 mobile HF+6 radio.

A week ago my new IC-705 portable Icom radio joined my collection of shack stuff. I was interested to see if I could use the mAT-40 with this QRP radio.

First, the IC-705 does not come with a regular molex plug on the back of the radio to connect an external tuner. The 705 has a 3-pin 3,5 mm input with ground, start and key(tuned) on the 3 pins, but no power as on all other Icom radios. The reason is that Icom comes with a AH-705 rondom wire tuner that uses latching relais and therefor only needs a 9 volt battery inside the small tuner.

But I looked in to the schematics and made myself a 3-pin 3,5mm plug and through the same cable I ran 12VDC separte to thepower supply (or battery pack). And guess what, the mAT-40 tunes just fine !!

So this type of tuner, if you buy, make sure you do like me and order the 3 cables to adapt to either Yaesu, Icom or Kenwood. I did and use the tuner now on my TS-890, my FT-891 and the new IC-705.

Still love the finish of the product. But will look out for the AH-705 in the near future when released.
