The Nifty mini manual is much easier to use than the Yaesu operating manual.

For example, in a qrp rig such as the ft817/818ND, setting power level is very important. So, let’s look at the Yaesu manual first.

The first place to look is on the contents page. Anything there regarding setting power levels? Nope. Ok, such important information has to be in there somewhere, so start thumbing through the manual. Aha! At page 13, there is a reference to a power control setting. However, this entry has nothing about how to set power levels nor does it have a reference to another page that does explain how to set power levels. Ok, back to thumbing through the manual. Finally, at the bottom of page 25, you find instructions on how to set power levels.

In the Nifty manual, “Setting Output Power” is on the first page, at line 4 of the table of contents. Bingo! Go to page 4, as the entry directs, and there it is, at the top of the page, all you need to know about setting power levels.

The above is just an example of the overall difference between the Nifty manual and the Yaesu manual. The Nifty manual gives the information that a ham is most likely to need, in a place where a ham is most likely to look for it, in language that a ham can easily understand. And the Nifty pages are laminated so they will last much longer in your go bag and will not be permanently stained when you spill coffee on them. The Yaesu manual, on the other hand, is written by someone who apparently doesn’t know or care about providing easily accessible information.
