Description:
SwapMyRigs.com (SMR) is a patented mobile radio separation kit that works interchangeably with all current mobile transceivers with modular connectors. SMRs utilize the IBM VGA cable’s unique internal coaxial cables and twisted-pairs to provide a one-time, streamlined, and robust single-cable installation that is configurable for any current mobile radio. (The cable need not be hidden or protected when installed. Many users lay the cable beside the car’s door frame or drive tunnel. Some place it under the car, tying it to the frame.) The VGA cable’s internal shielding prevents crosstalk, clock noise, or interference. Changing radios involves only reconfiguring jumpers in the black boxes at each end of the VGA cable. The boxes translate the radio’s input/outputs to and from the cable’s 15 conductors. The SMR package includes two boxes pre-configured for your radio, a 15-foot fully shielded VGA cable, and three connecting cables for the radio body. (VGA cables are available up to 150 feet in length.) Manufacturers’ microphone, control head, and speaker cables plug directly into the remote SMR box. (The package includes special SMR-to-control head cables for certain radios with unique connectors.) The installation will always be plug-and-play. The SMR separation kit works interchangeably with the following transceivers: ICOM:IC-7100 ID-4100 ID-5100 IC-2720/30 IC-2820 ID-880H KENWOOD:TM-D700 TM-D710G/V71 TS-480 YAESU:FT-857 FTM-350 FTM-400/100 FT-7/8/9xx

Excellent Idea and Implementation Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The SMR concept and the equipment is genius. The inventor (AE4S) ripped apart the problem of interfacing multiple radios to their common denominator interface and then crafted an easily adaptable solution. You can make it cover distances found in a base station or RV, then adapt it to a standard automobile. It works. You can use it over and over again, tweaking it to your current radio.

The lifetime warranty is hard to find in the Amateur Radio realm.

If you are like me and like to switch radios between vehicles, SMR makes it all work.
