Review Summary For : Yaesu SCU-LAN10
Reviews: 2MSRP: 339.00
Description:
Some transceivers require a complete PC in order to be remotely controlled via the Internet - with the FT-DX101, a small and power-saving interface - the SCU-LAN10 - is sufficient. Yaesu has deliberately not built a network interface into its top-of-the-line transceivers in order to reduce the complexity of the software and also to keep costs within reasonable limits. In return, there is now an option for users who want convenient remote operation - without the need for a large computer at the remote location. The SCU-LAN10 interface is connected to the FT-DX101D or FT-DX101MP using a USB cable, and the Ethernet interface to the router in the house (cable not included). Using a free PC software (Windows 7/8/10, 32 and 64-bit), remote access to the transceiver is possible from anywhere in the world - this could be the table next door or in the garden, or even the hotel room in another time zone. The advantage - you never miss a rare DX station because you are travelling. Another possibility is for club stations that want to make the high-quality transceiver available to many members at a quiet remote location with large antennas. The 'PC Remote Control Software' from Yaesu offers operation as if you were sitting directly at the unit. A standard PC headset is required for operation. The PTT is operated by mouse. The large screen on the computer is used to full advantage, because the division of the waterfall display of both bands can be cleverly combined and distributed with the controls. And if you only want to listen, the bandscope can be displayed very large over the whole screen - surely an eye-catcher for the next public presentation in the club! Please note that the transceivers must be equipped with the following SW versions (or newer) to operate the SCU-LAN10 interface.

Works well, with some shortcomings Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
They've improved the software and now it is possible to turn the rig on/off remotely.

I wish there was documentation on how to setup my logging software to CAT control the SCU-LAN10 so that the current frequency of the radio would be automatically logged.

Not ready yet Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After ordered my FTDX-101MP, I thought about go online and be able to do CW, SSB and Digi modes, what a frustration and see that only SSB would be possible, of course I can connect to my remote computer and prepare everything but then I don't need such interface. Also you can not turn you radio on thru the interface, you still need to leave your radio on full time and not use on demand. A lot of software can already turn on/off your rig why this interface can't? Too much money for a such basic interface, I have hope they will improve firmware and software to be a real online thing, so far it's not. Of course just run on Windows, if you run MacOS no chance, no mobile app available as well, that would be a must. As an Yaesu fan, I was very disappointed with it. If they improve it, I will come back and change my review.
