Most QSL printers these days specialize in color photo QSL cards - which is fine; I got one myself. When I wanted to try a vintage design, it took me quite some time to find a printer using old fashioned offset printing instead of the digital printing used for photo QSLs. Safer Print does that, and they offer a recycled non coated 250g/m2 paper which is more appropriate for old style cards than white coated paper.

The only downside is that they require print data in the CMYK format used in offset printing, rather than the common RGB color format most programs produce. In the end, I used a free online converter, which was able to take the color profile (a .icc file) provided by safer print into account.

Offset printing gets really cheap for large quantities, but since this was my first attempt to produce a design in the CMYK color model, I wanted to play it safe and ordered only 1000. The cards turned out just as the preview on my screen showed them, and the feel of the card stock adds authenticity.

If you are able and willing to design the card yourself, including the back page, and understand the limits of the offset print process, I recommend safer print. If you need a full service printer, who will help with the design and provide readily available back sides, I would look elsewhere. My rating reflects this.
