Excellent and affordable SS Amplifier Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The DX 1200 is basically the same Amp as the Gemini HF-1K. So read also the reviews from the HF-1K.
I had an ACOM 1000 before, for more then 17 years. So that is my comparison. I loved it, because it was decent in terms of noise. The DX1200 is very quiet too. But the noise profile is completely different between a tube Amp and an SS Amp. The DX1200 starts with a very decent sound of some small fans, which run always after switching on. While you are transmitting the main fan comes in, and gets faster and faster (and louder) the longer you transmit. This continuous, stepless cooling regulation works perfect. It reminds you while you are talking, that it is maybe time to hand over the mike again to your partner. When you stop transmitting, then the fan speed starts decreasing nearly immediately and reaches after some minutes again a low noise level.
Also the DX1200 is tolerant concerning SWR. I use an external remote tuner close to the Wire Antenna. I therefore don't need an Amp with built in tuner.
I am very pleased with this Amp. It is a worthily successor and has comparable good IMD3 values as my beloved Acom 1000.
