Reviews: 2MSRP:
Description:
MFJ-714 MFJ 2m Intermod Filter (SO-239) * 144 - 148MHz bandpass filter * Up to 50dB rejection * Defaults to straight through when off * Requires at least 50mW for auto sensing * For mobiles * Termination SO-239 * Size 70 x 50 x 45mm approx. * Power: External 12V DC supply A three section high-Q bandpass filter for 2m mobiles. RF sensing bypasses it on transmit. Power is from an external 12V DC supply (not supplied). The unit will dramatically reduce interference caused by out of band transmissions by up to 50dB. Max handling power is 50W. When switched on there is a 6dB insertion loss, but this is probably acceptable compared with the improvement gained.

Epic Fail Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
D.O.A. It sure cuts out intermod- it cuts out in band S9+ xxdB sgnals too. The relay clicked. The LED illuminated, but the device was away with the fairies.

I mean- really?

This review is for the MFJ-713 because I don't believe it's worth opening another category for a battery powered example of the MFJ-714.

The emporium (that shall remain nameless because it's not their fault) refunded me without question. That's good although I don't imagine they even bothered to open it up much less fix it for me. This is a black mark for them because it's a very simple device that is frankly not worth the asking price. Even a diecast box would have improved it without over burdening the handheld compared to as supplied, but that's MFJ in my limited experience (and they're not alone in that approach.) Sadly, the emporium ommitted to refund what it cost me to return it to them, and they should know very well that's a legal requirement under The Distance Selling Regulations here in The UK, but I didn't bother to chase them for it.

After experiencing a mediocre performance (as in effectively useless for the intended purpose) from an MFJ CW decoder, it's not going to be "Three Strikes and You're Out" for MFJ so far as I'm concerned. I'm done after the second collapsed hurdle. It's my money guys.

Consider that not working out of the box reflects really badly on quality assurance which should underline the perhaps unfair lowball score, what else can you award in all honesty?

This worked, no more pager breakthrough Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was suffering chronic pager breakthrough.

Connecting my spectrum analyser to the antenna I quickly identified the culprit a huge 153mhz signal

The offending signal from an antenna on a 30 story block about half a mile from my QTH.

The signal overloaded my 2m transceivers with high levels of background noise de-sensing my rx across the whole of 2m

I tried a band-pass filters with little improvement and
bought this product second hand on the off-chance it would work.

This product completely cured the problem

If you're suffering 153Mhz breakthrough give it a try!
