I have waited a long time for this rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I always find dedicated 2/70 FM radios to be more sensitive than the DC-Light transceivers and had a lot of fun with the FT-7800 and FT-7900. I liked them because single receiver which is all I like - basic. Trouble is I sold the last FT-7900 then could only find Chinese copies when Yaesu discontinued them.

Then came the FTM-6000. Amazing. I am listening to it now - the sensitivity is incredible. I set the squelch to level 3 and only actual signals open it, even at S0! Bowled over. I have it connected to a Diamond X300N in the shack and am using a Yaesu MLS-100 speaker which gives it real depth. I installed the bluetooth module for future proofing but have no immediate need for it.

I purchased the RT Systems YPS-M6000-USB software & cable package which makes programming the radio a doddle - especially if you already have a csv from programming a previous rig, as I did. RT Systems programming kits are amazing - I wouldn't buy an FM radio without one.

Only downside for me was they put an SO-239 on the radio - I think that's been commonplace in the US but in Europe we have enjoyed the benefit of Yaesu V/UHF radios with N Type connection which is better for higher frequencies - but hey its a basic dual bander its not a big deal.

Some hams love D-Star, Fusion and PMR and that's great. Some people like me just want to use FM and this rig does just that.

Solid rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The FTM-6000 is exactly what I needed to mount in the XYL vehicle that I occasionally drive, thus a 5 rating as a solid rig. A small footprint, bare bones dual band and remote head. My only thought is that it would be a tad more convenient to include the mike extension cable along with the remote head extension cable. My fix was to take an unused mike extension from my FT-891 that I moved into my shack from a vehicle. The spouse is not a ham but is pleased that the radio body is unobtrusive and out of sight.

So far so good Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Picked one up yesterday at HRO in New Castle, DE. They are on sale right now for $259.00. It took all of about 30 minutes to un-box and manually program in 7 different Freq's with PL tones etc, so it's very easy to program. Unit is built solid and has Yaesu's slide and lock rail mounting system. This system allows me to easily interchange rigs from base to mobile. Sounds every bit as good as the FTM 300. It's just a nice little compact rig for repeater use and not a lot of money.

great for winlink, audio a bit shrill Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I bought this to serve as a CERT/ARES radio, with a focus on easy Winlink use. I don't do a lot of 2m/440 any more beyond emergency preparedness nets/comms. The FTM6000 with a Digirig does Winlink flawlessly in a compact setup. The one thing I don't care for is the receive audio for voice has some treble emphasis that I don't care for (both internal and using external speaker). Also is a bit harsh audio when breaking squelch. But I don't listen to it often so not a deal-breaker. YMMV as I tend to be sensitive to audio around 2-3Khz.

Solid performer with weird buttons Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Its a solid rig, sounds great and like it, but do note for the community here that the front buttons are of the "rubber chiklet" type, not hard keys. Don't have that really positive feel, admittedly a very subjective thing, and wonder if repeatedly exposed to heat in a closed vehicle how they will hold up. Mine's living in the truck, time will tell.

GREAT MOBILE/FIXED BASE RADIO Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have had this rig for 2 months and I really like it. I needed a home rig to upgrade from my Yeasu FT-65 HT in order to hit more repeaters in my ARES and CERT work. I does everything I need it to do so I'm not paying more for things I do not need. I was going to buy a programming cable and program to program it, but it's easy to do once you figure out the User Manual. It has a large, easy to use screen that can be dimmed, and 3 power levels, 5, 25, and 50 watts. A lot of features can be changed from the Microphone. I bought mine from Maine Trading Company when the had a a special for $250, but they can be had for $320 on many websites.

Excellent radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Nicely designed radio with easy to use front-panel controls. Display is very clear. Extended receive is outstanding, with coverage from 108-999.995MHz. Receive audio out of top-mounted speaker is very loud and clear. Transmit audio is superb. Includes mobile mounting bracket and remote mount for head, if you decide to use mobile. While I use RT Systems programming S/W and cable, it's an easy matter to program rig right from the front panel or use free Yaesu ADMS-13 programming S/W. Newly-designed mic is great, too. The radio serves as my VHF/UHF base station.

Solid good mobile rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Good rig with great receive capability including the AM Air band. Complete: DTMF microphone, high power speaker, mount bracket, control-, cloning-, USB- and data cable. Max 50 watts out on 2 meter- and 70 centimeter band. Bluetooth possibility with the optional bluetooth unit. Also a mount bracket for the control unit if you want this mount apart on your dashboard or so. Sensitive RX and crystal clear TX according to the folks I worked. For this price you can't go wrong.

Good rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Out of the box I was excited to have a new dual band Yaesu rig. It's a solid rig that reminded me of transceivers of the past. Lots of features and easy menu access with all the accessories anyone could need in the box. Also easy to program from the front panel as compared to other rigs.

I was a little taken back when to hear a relay actuate when transmitting, but kind of brushed it off as a non issue (if my other transceivers have relays I don't hear them).

The receiver seems super sensitive with good adjacent channel rejection.
