Could Be Easily Improved Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is indeed a diminutive transceiver. It feels solidly built but then the CCRs all seem to be well made, at least superficially. My QYT KT8900r died when I had the temerity to insert an extension loudspeaker plug while it was switched on and I swore "Never again PRC" but here I am ...

The programming software is junk. Its batch edit facility only extends from channel 1 to 200. On a 500 memories radio? There are lots of settings that could and should be added.

The scan seems to stop on channels but the repeater is not the one I programmed. I'm going to be generous here and blame my programming ... The scan works albeit slowly, but I have found no way to work with the scan stopped frequency because whatever button I press it resolutely returns to the last channel used, so I suppose I must take note of the display and retune the radio to what I saw? Hmm.

I seems quite sensitive but as expected subject to pager QRM so no surprises there.

The "manual" is no better than expected but maybe better than many CCRs.

It seems to ignore the programmed start and end frequencies for VFO scanning, it just keeps on scanning in whatever direction it started off.

Why can't they use a proper spreadsheet based user interface? LibreOffice is free so why? Chirp doesn't support it yet even after some 18 months which is a shame. The Anytone website's software download V2.01 wouldn't connect, I had to download V2.0 from the Moonraker website and even then I had the usual port selection gymnastics. You can't insert lines or delete them nor even copy and paste them so arranging entries is a truly life sapping experience. Windows wants to overwrite the ubiquitous counterfeit Chinese Prolific USB serial port driver requiring irritating group policy edits and the inevitable subsequent constant nags.

The rubber boot on the microphone's rubbish modular plug fell off immediately, and now refuses to stay lodged in the radio's fascia panel. It's brandy new folks for goodness sake! The retail outlet that lays spurious claim to being the world's favourite ham emporium told me basically you get what you're given with the rubber mic boot.

All that said, it has the real possibility of becoming a 5 star rated radio for its intended purpose if only they'd fix the stupid software. Two stars undervalues the radio especially at this price point, but "needs help" means just that, and until Anytone get their collective fingers out the cap must fit I'm afraid.

I wouldn't buy this again unless or until software improvements are embodied. Will this one be my last CCR?
