Radio OK, Serious safety issue with the AC Adaptor Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is quite a good little radio, very similar in operation to famous UV5R III in that it's a Tri-Band (144-220-430MHz), so useful if you are going to or live in the USA. It also covers the VHF-FM Radio band from 68MHz-108MHz. It come with a programming cable, feels solid and works as expected. It also seems to produce the claimed 8W of power, though the supplied antennas (there are two) are best replaced with a decent quality Diamond whip antenna will improve the performance by quite a margin (I have one of these on my UV5R III).

The AC adapter supplied has a European plug so Baofeng supply a UK adapter, however this adapter is non-compliant with UK electrical standards, therefore illegal to sell in the UK and having inspected it, it is dangerous, no fuse, wrong earth pin length and a sleeved earth pin, no shuttering for starters), so throw it away. I have written to the company about this and they have part refunded me so that I can buy another 10V adapter. One useful bonus is that the battery can be charged directly using a barrel connector, so useful for the car.

If Baofeng sort the issue with the electrical safety then the radio would get 5 stars from me, but selling something that's electrically dangerous and is against UK law is a serious shortcoming that cannot be overlooked. For the life of me I can't think why they don't just provide a version of their USB type drop-in charger for this radio (the UV5R USB charger does not really fit, but it can be made to work).
