Awesome for a portable Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is a great little receiver. I had a Sony 2010 for over 10 years and this little gem gives performance thats probably 90% of that highly regarded receiver in a box that's well less than half the size, weight and price. The synco works good and the filter choice is good; not too narrow or too wide like on the 2010. The BFO allows excellent reception of SSB or tuning of AM stations in ECSS mode. Since you can zero beat perfectly, you don't have to deal with the "donald duck" sounds of receivers that only tune in 100 Hz increments. The audio is fine though the internal speaker and even better with headphones. FM works great and the adujstable attenuator is a great addition too. Overall this is a great PORTABLE radio and an excellent value for the money.

Great Portable Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Build quality on this radio is excellent! I have received many exotic signals with this radio. The synchro works great. The ssb is much easier to tune than most portables. The audio sounds great to my battered old ears. Although the display and controls are not as good as the yb 400, I would recommend this radio over the yb. If you are more than just a casual listener, this is your portable!!

excellent portable gear Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The radio can stably handle almost all stations I want to listen to. In outdoors you only need to use the whip antenna or the internal MW/LW bar antenna; even in a computer room full of EMI noise a decent antenna such as AOR's SA7000 placed outside the building will surely give this radio a chance to listen to CW signals on 40m or 17m bands.

This radio has no S-meter, but that's not what I want as long as I'm using a non-directional antenna, so no problem.

The line-out jack is a stereo output (though it is only in fully stereo when you attach a stereo earphone at the headphone output) and very convenient for recording, though connecting the output to a computer surely requires an isolator to avoid EMI.

I was once an ICF-7600A user and still has an ICF-7600DA. This model, released in 2001, surely gives another milestone to the history of the 7600 series.

Great Value Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The Sony ICF-SW-7600GR is the best radio under $200.00.
What sets the 7600GR apart from its competitors is its advanced synchronous detector circuit, its top notch quality construction, and its performance.

The synchronous detector just plain works. It eliminates drift and kills heterodyne whistles deader than a Tyson chicken. This is a pleasure to behold on a less than $200.00 receiver. Being able to select the sideband is a bonus. You'll leave it engaged all the time on medium wave.

This radio is surprisingly heavy for its size. The fit and finish is impressive. The controls leave the impression of being engineered to last -- no squishy rubber buttons on this guy. The level of execution is equal to the level of engineering.

This Sony's Performance is second to none in its price range. The ability to pull signals out of the mud is impressive. Using the built-in whip and its clip-on wire auxilary, I've pulled in some stations that surprised me, especially here on the West Coast where short wave is severely geographically handicapped. I listen to the BBC's broadcasts to Latin America regularly. Radio Canada comes in strong, as does the Voice of Russia. Australia, Japan, both Chinas, New Zealand, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and many stations in Latin America have all been regular, and easy captures. My radio's 100 memories are full of acquisitions.

Medium wave is wonderful on this little guy. In the evenings I can hear a different station on just about every AM frequency. The sync detector does a wonderful job of keeping reception stable and clean. All of this is without any auxilary antenna, and without using the built-in whip. I can imagine what this baby would do with a Select-a-Tenna.

This radio impresses. I am very happy with it. By putting synchronous detection in a sensitive receiver like this at this price, Sony will crush the competition. After using this receiver for some months now, I would *never* sacrifice the synchronous detector for a better sounding speaker or tuning convenience. After all, one can always plug in speakers or headphones.

Nice radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just got this radio to replace my dead YB400. The Sony's sensitivity is far better. I've been able to listen to stations that weren't even noticeable with the Grundig. I'm beginning to wonder if I didn't have a "deaf" YB400.

The Sych detector is a great feature, really "locks in" the signal.

I love the 100 memories, although I prefer the more straightforward approach of the Grundig.

The only complaint; Sony really needs to get their act together and do domething about that speaker: I do miss the wonderful audio of the Grundig. I now listen through either a pair of computer speakers or phones. It's the only thing that keeps it from getting a 5.

If you intend to use this radio for lots of music listening on FM, choose the Grundig YB400.

For pulling in faraway signals in a small package, get the 7600GR.

Good Portable Receiver Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I used the old Sony SW7600 since 1990 and I have just switched to the new
SW7600GR. I use portables mostly during trips far from my home address. I
use 90% of the time to listen SSB ham stations and I am as happy as before
with this new model. Sony included a variable attenuator which is useful
when strong stations come in. I brought the 7600GR with me to central
Finland (OH3) and I could hear Brazilian ham stations running only 100 watts
in 40 meters (my antenna was a whip over the window of my room in a hotel).
This portable is exactly what I need during my trips. It is small and even
provides you some "DX SWL" with limited conditions such as antenna. Very
good product.
Thanks and Regards

Excellent! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is an excellent receiver for it's size. I am very impressed! I sat in my easy chair last night and picked up 76 (strong signal) shortwave stations over the various bands while scanning, simply using the whip antenna. Previous receiver was a Grunding Satellit 700, very nice but way to bulky and cumbersome for portable / laptop use. WONDERFUL to be able to scan up and down in frequency using the small-step buttons with NO MUTING of the signals. Almost as good as a tuning knob! Very easy to tune in ssb signals, and very stable as well. Snychronous detection substitutes well if not better than a narrow filter, makes about 80% of the desired stations much easier to listen to, and stays locked well. My only complaints are no S-meter, and the sound is not as full as I would like (although sounds excellent with a good pair of headphones), but a small price to pay for such a sensitive receiver. Sensitivity rivals that of the Sat 700 using the whip antennas as a comparison(seriously), had no intermod anywhere as well. 100 memories will be plenty for me, very easy to load and erase incidentally. I give this radio a 5+ for ease of use right out of the box, excellent sensitivity, and great compact size.
