Very Solid Front Panel & Controls Protection Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
There are many different after-market doodads available for the Icom IC-705 transceiver. One of them is a bag & protective frame out of China that holds the AH-705 ATU, transceiver & accouterments. Another is the WindCamp ARK-705 protective frame for the radio. I have both. The Chinese frame is nice but it's made out of sheet metal and doesn't have quite the protective heft of the ARK-705. So I use the WindCamp frame with the Chinese bag and off we go.

Then I came across the SchipSoft IC-705 Protective Front Face Shield on eBay. It looked like just the thing to replace my scratch built -- and man does it look like it -- foam front cover protector.

In addition to the protection of the knobs and buttons, there's a space to snap in the larger battery -- with a cover to protect the exposed battery contacts -- and room for a couple pencils or pens, plus some space around the right hand knob protectors for anything else you might want to put in there (over the speaker grill, as it turns out). There's a velcro lined strap that then lashes around the radio to hold the cover on. And it fits right over the front of the radio, even with the radio in the WindCamp frame.

The velcro strap is just a few inches short to wrap & fasten around the frame, but the spaces between the frame and radio allow slipping the strap through the gaps, thus allowing use of the Velcro to secure the strap tight.

All of this still fits in the Chinese bag, which was a bit surprising to me, since the WindCamp frame is much huskier than the folded sheetmetal of the original bag's design/sales point.

I highly recommend the SchipSoft protective cover. It's definitely worth five stars. Nicely designed, cleanly 3D printed, definitely worth the $30-odd bucks I paid for it. And it arrived quickly too.
