Not a Tri-band antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased this antenna because I was looking for a cheap tri-band antenna for a $40 HT that I won as a door prize so I wasn't expecting much. I did a quick VNA check of the antenna when it arrived and found no resonance anywhere near 220 MHz. Return loss clocked in at 2 dB with no indication of a dip. Return loss on the other two bands was 12.45 dB at 144.5 MHz and 5.5 dB at 440.0 MHz. Not great but this is a portable antenna after all and at least the response is there. Also tested was a similar tri-band whip from another manufacturer (Abbree AR-771) which did show response on all three bands, although the return loss maxima were a little lower in frequency than they should have been. I contacted both the Radioddity customer service rep and the person running their eBay store and neither one of them had a clue what I was talking about when I explained my test results. They kept trying to help me by reading talking points from a script and could not provide any actual test data to show that this antenna should work on three bands nor put me in touch with anyone who would actually know. Since they could not guarantee that a replacement antenna that they would send me would be any different than the one I tested I decided to opt for a refund. On the plus side they did refund me without delay and did not ask me to return the defective antenna. So I'll mark it as a dual band antenna and pass it on to a new ham who can use it.
