Low noise, sensitive and selective. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I use mainly CW. For me, the receiver and this FT-710 is very good. I am fortunate to live in a very low noise, rural area, and this receiver can hear those signal reading 'S0' quite well. The easily adjustable selectivity/filtering is a huge plus for a Morse operator. There is obviously very little internal noise generated.

One gripe is that there is a noticeable delay when the BREAK IN is OFF, which would normally be how I practice my sending. That is absolutely inexcusable. However, when I turn the BREAK-IN to ON for actual transmitting, I do not have this delay, otherwise I would have returned the transceiver the first day.

The second con: it's a pain to set-up for digital modes. I have some friends who are 'Morse Impaired' so I use digital to talk with them. Yaesu USB drivers are Windows 10 or 11 only (No Linux), so if you don't use W 10 or 11, you are on your own. There is no reason in today's world, why it should not be plug & play , like my OLD 7200 did.

Testing it on SSB, I received very good reports on the transceiver's audio and the adjustable filters make the most of crowded bands.

Would I buy it again? Absolutely.

Amazing Improvements in Transceiver Technology Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The Yaesu FT-710 has some amazing improvements in technology over my 10-year-old Yaesu FTdx3000. The receiver sounds great and the interference fighting tools, especially the DNR, NB, and Width controls really work great. The operating menu system is greatly improved with one-touch to get the menu on the screen and then touch and turn/push the FUNC knob to change the settings. I use a mini-mouse (so it doesn't get confused with the computer mouse) instead of touching the screen and it works great. Some of the menu settings that rarely get changed once set are in five groups that are similar to the usual Yaesu menu system. There are a lot of menu settings to set, so be prepared to spend some time getting how you like it. The beautiful color display is fantastic with bandscope, waterfalls, o-scope, bandpass, and AF-FFT - very comprehensive display package. I agree with others who say the 3DSS is not very useful. It looks cool, but after watching it for awhile it's "so what?" The 2D waterfall is more meaningful.
The only problem I've had is setting up digital modes. I got it to work, but there are TWO KEY SETTINGS: 1. In Windows Audio Device settings, you must use "CD Quality" not the normal "DVD Quality" for the Transmit audio. If you don't do that, you get no Transmit audio. 2. You must also use CAT for PTT. If you use RTS and the Second COM port, like I do for FTdx3000 and FT-891+SCU-17, it introduces a crackle into the Transmit audio. It should work, but it doesn't - you must key the radio with CAT. I need to call Yaesu about that problem. The rest of the setup is straightforward.
One surprising feature is the ZIN button, which zero beats a CW station. The surprising thing is that it actually work! On my FTdx3000, it would randomly move the frequency further and further away with each press. The ZIN on the FT-710 works every time. Lastly, the built in antenna tuner tunes much more than specified - I've tried up to 5:1 and it works great.

Mini FTDX-10 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Update :
Mea Culpa : I bought another 710 and immediately applied the latest firmware release (03/2023). The DNR problem is fixed. Radio has now drivers to support generic wireless mouse. NB while still not perfect is way better. I would also says that the "AESS" effect is now more dramatic.

I was trying to convince myself that this 710 was performing the same as my previous FTdx-10. Well after a few weeks, I cannot stand the very poor recovered audio from the radio. AESS or not. It’s sound tiny and distorted. DNR is useless as the noise blanker. I am not gona wait another year for a firmware update for problems that they were aware to begin with from the factory.
Replaced with an IC-7300.
The 710 is certainly not up to the fxdx-10 and 101d level.
Sherwood number don't tell the whole story. Sorry guys

Excellent rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Excellent radio for price / performance ratio. The radio is very similar to the DX10 in size and has a small but very performing speaker because it works together with that of the radio. It can be installed on the right or left of the radio body. Excellent receiver (however the roofing filters are missing) but if connected to high-performance antennas it does not fear comparisons with more expensive radios. The software is very similar to the TFDX 10 even if it is annoying to enter the notch, width and DNF with the touch screen. I recommend updating the firmware to the latest version because it greatly improves the DNR.
I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Nice radio but useless DNR Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Shame on Yaesu for releasing this radio before the beta testing was done. The DNR is useless with a watery affect. Up to today the issue has not been rectified even though Yaesu are very well aware of the issue!!

FT-710 random thoughts after a week… Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
• Display quality and much better mouse operation than my IC-7610
• The DNF & NB seem better (Less distortion) on the FT-710 vs the FTdx-10 (I sold it because of the distortion) NC0B/N4HNH and others also complained about this distortion on the FTdx10. Yaesu dismisses the complaint.
• DNR works pretty good at the 2-3 level
• AESS is a joke. Poor SQ, compared to a good quality monitor speaker
• However, I did have to work hard (various settings) to get the receiver to sound good like my Kenwood & Icom, with my monitor speaker of choice
• A bigger joke is it has a clock that you can’t see, but there’s room for it on the display
• Nice to have a selection of 4 ATT levels at this price point
• Big miss – No AGCT like some other SDRs and sometimes I get some AGC popping on the audio that can be irritating. Yaesu must fix this.
• Very good reports on phone using a studio mic
• No hint of RFI while running a kilowatt on 80M
• 94W max on 80M at 14.2VDC
• Wish the fish finder would scroll & recenter like the TS-890
• To simplify operation: ATT, IPO, DNF & AGC should toggle when touched, instead of opening a menu requiring a 2nd selection step
• Would like the pull up screens “time out” to be adjustable. Sometimes 5 seconds is not long enough for this OM
• Not sure that Contour is as effective as it was on the FTdx-3000 I had.
• 3 year warranty is among the best available
• Glad Yaesu changed Memory operation to be like Icom & Kenwood
• I have yet to hear the fan. I can hear the fan sometimes on my IC-7610
• Hope Yaesu continues updating the features/functions, but like Kenwood & Icom, that is most likely a false hope
• Feels & looks to be a quality product
• So far, I think the radio is a keeper

Der YAESU FT 710 gefällt mir sehr Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.

Early on but impressed Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Received the FT 710 and external monitor a day earlier than GigaParts predicted it would arrive. The learning curve is not particularly steep probably because I have used the FT 991A and FTdx-10 recently at another station.
Set up was not difficult, though I had downloaded the manual prior to deciding to buy one and had read it thoroughly. Having inserted a 32GB sim card I was able to quickly program both the SSB and CW contest keyers. Only waiting for the arrival of the proper USB cable to interface the rig to the computer and, thus, N1MM.
I am very impressed with the receiver though, admittedly, I have not had a lot of on the air time yet. I did work an OZ on 40 SSB who was not that strong and on a fairly noisy band. The DNR and other receive features of the radio were most helpful.
I set up the SSB EQ using some settings I had saved when using my Heil mic with another Yaesu radio. Not sure I am done with that yet but the audio sounds good via a second receiver. Two of the stations I have worked so far gave unsolicited “great audio” reports so I may leave it the way it is. My voice is deep and I really need to take some of the base out of the transmitted audio.
The only negative thus far is that when the function nob is depressed and you select some feature you want to change you have only a couple of seconds to initiate the change or you have to start all over again. I know other FT 710 owners have expressed some displeasure at that so perhaps a future firmware update will solve that issue.
I am not an FT-8 guy but reading through the manual (there is a detailed, specific section on Ft-8 set up) it would appear to be pretty easy for those so inclined.
Since the TFT displays like the one used in the Ft 710 are somewhat prone to pixel burn out when used at maximum brightness I opted for an inexpensive external monitor. I can keep the radio’s display brightness at a minimum and see everything clearly on the monitor.
Finally the transceiver comes with an internal speaker and a clip on external speaker. When both are selected it results in “enhanced audio” (all modes) and there are a LOT of adjustments that can be made to get the receive audio where you like it. Just for the heck of it I substituted a very high quality external speaker for the one Yaesu provides and the enhanced audio did not work that well. It would seem that their enhanced received audio circuitry was designed around their speakers and not speakers in general. My previously used high quality external speaker is now used on another radio.
I would seem , in terms of price (barely over $1K with the instant rebate) to be just a little more than an “entry level” radio. However, since I value a transceiver’s receiver more than anything else and since this one is tied for #3 on the Sherwood list with the FTdx-10 and since many of the receive features and specs are the same as Yaesu’s much higher priced rigs I would say the FT-710 gives you a LOT of bang the buck

Wonderful piece of kit Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Looking for a small, versatile and good transceiver for portable operations, I immediately had a crush on this little gem. I tested it during the last Stew Perry Challenge 160m CW contest. I am very impressed by its behavior in presence of nearby strong signals. DSP filters are easy to use and really do the job. Although I updated the radio with the latest firmware from December 2022, I discovered a software bug. When I transmit CW with the internal keyer while being connected to my computer, I experience sporadic random dits and dashes errors. As soon as I disconnect my computer, the problem is gone. This will be certainly fixed with the next firmware upgrade I believe. You get lots of bangs for the bucks from YAESU. Compared to my FTDX-5000MP it stands very well. I am very happy with my purchase and looking forward to working DX.

The FT-710 AESS is a hit if you ask me. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This radio is well beyond a bargain especially at this price point and beyond.

On RX I and easily pull stuff out that may have missed on another radio. On TX reports are good as well. The menu system is easy to navigate. On thing I am not a fan of the 3D scope, so I leave it in 2D mode. Noise reduction works pretty well too. Most of this is post firmware update.

I bought mine at HRO, it is on sale right now 1049$US and it come with the AESS speaker as well.
