awsome audio Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I wish i would have known about this mic before i plunked down 280.00 for a pr-40.This mic sounds as good as the pr-40 but at j&r music world i paid 32.00 with shipping included.I bought another and have a backup mic.i highly recomend this mic if your looking for hi-fi clean audio.

SUPURB FOR THE MONEY Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have used both condenser and dynamic microphones costing $300 or better, and the Audio Technica ATR30 mike for ham radio cannot be beat. I purchased mine from J&R Music in New York for $22.00, what a find for price and quality, as well as Audio reproduction. Again it out performs microphones that are substantially more expensive.

Sold my PR-40 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I really like Heil mics, and I hated to sell the PR-40, but the Audio-Technica ATR-30 cabled into the rear panel mic jack on my FT-2000 is really sweet! For my voice, the PR-40 had just too much low end. The ATR-30 with a RadioShack foam windscreen is just right for me. Now do the math: +/-$40 for the ATR-30 (check Amazon.com) or $300+ for the PR-40; easy choice for me. The Audio-Technica product is very well built and attractive; no compromises that I can see or hear.

LOOK FOR THIS!!! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
ATR20 this microphone is the best I have found so for but I have not tried them all yet. This one was 30 bucks at best buy and it is good because it is the cardioid pattern and that uis what you want.I have the yeasu 920 and with the proper adapter you can plug it strait in to the back were it says patch of coarse you need the ptt foot switch. I just click it with my hand. The proper adapter is either a mini MONO to rca MONO or 1/4 MONO to rca MONO (avalible at radio shack) $2.99. so for $50+ you can get talking good. So long as you have the ptt jack and the patch jack in the back of your radio your good to go. I aslo had the same set up on the yeasu 890. so look for yours.

Rugged construction and high quality audio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This mic was designed for live performances by vocalists/instruments. It uses a dynamic element, with 500 ohm impedance, and has a unidirectional characteristic. Overall appearance is very similar to the Heil microphones. It's sold by Radio Shack at the $39.95 price, and is typically $49.95 to $59.95 elsewhere. The mic holder or clip, included in the package, mate with any pro audio arm or stand and I use it on the Heil MA-1 boom. Comes with a 16.5 foot cable, with XLR connector at the mic end and 1/4 inch plug at the other end. Includes an on/off switch on the mic body.

After trying out this mic with my TS-950SDX, the old Kenwood MC-60A went in the closet to stay. The mic has a wide frequency response, which you can very effectively tailor using a mixer or the DSP high and low-pass filters in the 950SDX. The frequency response is very flat over the communications range. While I'm not into high-fidelity SSB, I'm surprised that more hams don't use pro audio mics instead of the much more expensive desk mics from the major amateur radio manufacturers. You can have this mic, a desk stand, and the lower priced W2IHY mixer for about the price of a Heil mic and you can then make it sound like whatever you want using any transceiver.

Output level from this mic appears to be about he same as from the MC-60A, based on nearly identical mic gain settings.
