Review Summary For : RSP Spectrum Analyzer software by Andrew Developments
Reviews: 4MSRP: N/A
Description:
The RSP Spectrum Analyzer application is software for the RSP series of SDR radio receivers from SDRPlay. The program is written specifically for those products and functions only when used with them. RSP Spectrum Analyzer allows the RSP receiver to be used as a full-featured and accurate spectrum analyzer.

Very good & useful Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Note: As of this writing, the RSP Spectrum Analyzer software has not been updated since October 2020 and the author has not responded to eMail in most cases. The program might be considered abandonware, but the last released version is very stable, useful and fully functional and so updates are really not needed and would likely be small improvements.

EDIT 10/26/22:
I'm sorry that this software didn't work for WB8VLC. But his is likely an isolated case and more likely related to problems not caused by the spectrum analyzer software. Perhaps the required USB driver & API files were not installed correctly & verified or ?. I have installed this on many computers without issue and it works as designed. Again, I'm sorry that it didn't work.

================

The RSP Spectrum Analyzer program along with an SDRPlay RSP receiver creates a very nice and inexpensive RF measurement system in the frequency range of 10khz to 2ghz.

This allows for very accurate frequency, amplitude, harmonic content, and many other measurements.

When adjusted correctly, the performance of this analyzer can equal and often exceed that of other instruments costing thousands of dollars. It really shines at narrow frequency spans. Sensitivity is amazing - I've used this program along with an RSPdx receiver to cleanly observe signals as low as -139dbm. Very impressive!

When used along with a good noise source, scalar measurements such as filter characterization and return loss are possible and easily performed.

A well-designed marker system is supported, and multiple traces - up to 5 - can be viewed simultaneously.

There are many other features and benefits of this system and they are well explained in the associated user manual. It is obvious that the author of this software, Steve Andrew, is intimately familiar with spectrum analyzer instruments and the most needed and desirable features. Suggestions from the user community were considered and many were implemented as well.

I do have other analyzers at my disposal but none of them are as sensitive and accurate as this one. I have dedicated a computer just to this only.

If you have need of a spectrum analyzer and don't want to spend a large amount of money, this is hard to beat. Install, study, read the manual, and learn. I'm confident that you'll be pleased.

Great idea! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I added this software to my two desktops (Win10) and my laptop (Win11). It works great and is a tremendous additional tool and use of the RSP. I have nothing to compare it with but using it now over the past year+ I can say it has done everything I asked of it. Highly recommended.

It's a shame we can't review, reviews!! haha
Some are just worthless.

I agree with LZR, this is very good software. The SDRPlay is very
underrated IMO. I use it as a test instrument not as a receiver.
This combo and a NanoVNA. you have *almost* all you need :)

Royally Messed up my laptop Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I saw this last month and figured why not, since I needed a spectrum analyzer when my HP SA's display died I went and downloaded it and what do you know, this junk messed up my USB ports, everything was messed up on my PC. Every USB port was screwed up on my 3 year old Toshiba laptop that nothing was talking to any of my other devices that used to work reliably. I spent about 5 hours fixing, recovering things and going back to several restore points and then reconfiguring everything again.

Never ever again will I download anything to my computers recommended by anyone on a ham radio group.
