Hextenna. Best one I have Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I went on a pota yesterday with some friends on the gulf coast of Louisiana. I must tell I have never experienced the clarity of audio as I have with the hex antenna. I normally use a vertical and its noisy. The audio was fm quality coming out of my Yaesu ftdx 10. I spoke to Russia, Wales and Germay with 59 reports. Also, over 108 phone qso’s in 140 minutes. I had a pile up each time I called and they were all booming in. The least report I got was a 52 and most were 59 plus. As a bonus I got stations close to me so it seems to act as a NVIS antenna to. With a claw mount this could easily be moutned on a fence or whatever. No radials needed. If I could only have one emcomm antenna this would be it.

Tuning is a breeze with a meter hanging around my neck. Didn’t bother with tape measure. The really stunning part is 1.0 swr across 20 meters. I was going to get a push up pole for this antenna but I just don’t see the need and I don’t think there would be much to gain getting it higher for the effort. I just had to share my absolute delight with this antenna. What a winner.

Alpha Hex-Dipole was an optimum performer. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My motivation for buying this portable antenna was for HF use from my motorhome (40 foot). Parks-On-The-Air (POTA) is of interest, so I wanted flexibility in antenna deployment. When space at the RV sight is limited, I would prefer the vertical configuration over the dipole. Either configuration could be used with the tripod or be clamped to the motorhome ladder above the ground 12 feet or so. Initial experience with my Icom ic7600 and both dipole and vertical configurations was impressive. The installation with all configurations was easy and quick. The Rig Expert AA-55 was helpful with SWR measurements and adjusting the dipole element lengths to 16' 11" 1/2" was the only required adjustment for 20 meters. SWR was flat across the entire ham band around 2:1. I also purchased a FMJ Alpha Antenna-HF Directional, NEVIS and DX Portable to insure max flexibility. Comparing the performance of the FMJ with the Hex-Dipole was surprisingly definitive. Offering a non-engineer description, the ic7600 waterfalls doubled in size and waterfall color intensified when using the Hex-dipole. The number of waterfalls and volume increased with the Hex-dipole. The Hex-vertical required finding the correct counterpoise length for a crossband flat SWR around 2:1. Having been a ham since the 1970s, my assessment is that these Alpha Antennas are quality products. In one small bag, I have the choice of three configurations, Hex-dipole, Hex-vertical w/counterpoise, FMJ w/ground and counterpoise.
