Get one,......if you can! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been using many microphones of the Yaesu MD-1 family for years now. I own two of them at presents. One I use on my FT-1000D, and the other one on a FT-102 line. Cosmetically they fit perfect to any of the Yaesu radios. I would see no problem with any of the other manufacturers radios either. I have received countless unsolicited audio reports, attesting to a "Super Audio..!". I have tried once to "improve on the sound" by installing a Heil cartridge. I tried the #3 & #4 & #5 cartridges (the #3 is an old one). None sounded better than the original. Needless to say, the Heil cartridges were sold quickly. The microphone comes with a 8-pin plug, wired for Yaesu radios, but it can easily be changed to any configuration. The frequency setting of the radio can be changed right on the microphone. This feature can come in handy. I like the performance of this microphone. For me there is no better microphone out there. If you can find one for sale (good luck), get it. The bad news is, it still sells for up to $140.00, depending on condition. (You might have to go with it's younger brother, the MD-100. It doesn't look quiet as good, but the audio quality is just as good.)

Best regards and good DX,
