Review Summary For : Tune-a-tenna by WB4NWV
Reviews: 2MSRP: $1,175
Description:
Tune-A-Tenna is a motorized dipole to be set up as an inverted V. The in-shack control unit allows this antenna to be tuned directly to any frequency, making it resonate from 6 meter though 160 meters and everything in between including all broadcast bands. Extend or retract the 2 antenna elements until you have reached the point of resonance for the desired operating frequency. Thereby providing maximum forward power and little if any reflected RF power. You will have effectively used a “custom cut to frequency” dipole antenna each and every time you change the frequency without leaving the equipment operating position.

No regrets Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
When I Got Back into Ham Radio after being silent for over 30 years, I was shocked at everything that had changed. Antennas, however, have not made as significant an advancement as electronics. I was still looking at antennas and antenna tuners—a terrible idea. Nothing works as well as a very closely matched radiator. After spending many hours making a Fan Dipole tuned to my most used frequencies. I was still stuck with the same problem. Wires everywhere are still not a good match for the frequency I was operating on.

I was listening to chatter on 40 meters one day and heard an operator talking about his antenna. He explained how the antenna was adjustable to the frequency without an antenna tuner. The kicker was when he said it could operate from 160M to 10 M. Whoa, I had to look at this. Looking at the website, I did not take long to understand what this guy had created and the practical application. This is precisely the innovation I was looking for. Simple, clean, easy antenna. It is an inverted vee dipole, so you will not have the advantages of a beam and a rotor. But you will get an antenna that is useable across the entire HF band at a lower expense than a tower rotor and beam. After swallowing hard and investing in my radio setup, I received the system. I decided the best method for me and my setup was to tune the antenna with an antenna analyzer. I adjust the speed of the antenna tuning by varying the voltage. This has allowed me to get excellent antenna tuning to the exact frequency I want to operate on without annoying every ham in the country on that specific frequency. I have had several QSOs with the maker of this antenna and have found him to be very helpful in explaining the hows and why of the system. The bottom line is this is a dipole that is just made right. I have no regrets about this purchase.

An Excellent preforming antenna. 5 Stars! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Having space for only one, I have recently replaced an Alpha-Delta EE for this antenna. It has preformed flawlessly allowing me to switch bands, or to any portion of any band, and be resonant. I have used it on every band except 160 meters. Thus far it has preformed as efficiently as any specifically cut full size dipole I've ever made has.
I have had to replace an old military fiberglass pole with a HD spiderbeam 47' aluminum push-up mast, in order to get the height needed. So far it has had no problems in the high winds we regularly get.
The construction seems to be so robust I expect it will withstand the minus 40 winter weather - but it is mechanical. I will add another review at the end of the coming winter.
I tune it with an antenna analyzer each time I tune to a new frequency.
One thing I would like to see is for the in-shack control unit to have a fine tune setting, which could slow down the retraction or extension of the wire arms.

Because of its versatility, this is by far the best antenna I have ever owned.
