Great for Intended Purpose Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
When I watched the DL1DN QRP Telescopic Whip “Handheld” YOUTUBE Videos, I was skeptical (especially the idea of using my body as the counterpoise!) Nonetheless, I had to try it. I bought all 3 available coils (covering 10m - 40m). The day I received it, I mounted the 20m coil/whip directly onto my ICOM 705 BNC, sat down in my front yard (using my body as the counterpoise) and immediately worked Florida (700 miles away) with 5 watts & an ICOM 705 mounted Whip Antenna! WOW! Great results 10m - 20m, but 40m really needs an actual counterpoise in order to work well; a length of very thin wire or any earth ground works very good (at least that’s my experience). In fact, adding a ground strap to the ICOM 705 AND the Antenna (there’s a place to attach grounds on both), enhance performance. But even when holding the ICOM 705 in my hand, the results are amazing.

During a DX CONTEST Day, it’s no problem making DX Contacts. And if an Op is willing to operate during prime DX Hours - again, making DX Contacts is no problem.

For POTA, Experimenting, NVIS, or just “FUN” - it’s a great antenna. Does it compete with my Beam & Legal Limit? Of course not. But when used for its intended purpose, it will provide some amazing QSOs.

Also, this set up is the Ultimate for Hunting RFI Sources!

For my purpose, it was money well spent.
