Review Summary For : W2ENY 6-KHz Filter Solution
Reviews: 3MSRP: $35.00 Shipped
Description:
A replacement filter for the Icom 746 and Icom 756 AM filter. The stock AM filter for these sets is unpleasently
wide (9KHz). W2ENY offers this 6 KHz filter as an improvement in the performance of radio while listening to
AM hams and short-wave listening.
Product is in production

Great Upgrade Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
A great upgrade but soldering skills required. I can hear stations on AM with less bleedover. Thank you.Replaced the 15khz 455 filter with this 6 khz filter and couldn't be happier.

I have seen this radio advertised as a quad conversion receiver. I know it has 9mhz and 455 khz filters. What are the other two?

A must have for the original ICOM 756. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is one of the best upgrades, and one of the cheapest I've ever done to a radio. This 6k filter
replaces the useless stock 2nd IF (455kHz) 15K filter. You can also replace the 9K filter if you desire. It virtually eliminates any "croostalk" on AM, and keeps the good audio of the 9K and 15K stock filters. The filter is small and surface mounted. Some soldering skill is required.

Great Improvement on Icom 746! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The W2ENY Filter is a solder-in replacement for the stock 2nd IF (455KHz) filter found in the Icom
746 and 756 transceivers. The stock filter is
too wide (9KHz), you can hear too much of the band
while listening to AM'ers and it's much too wide
to listen to Short-wave stations. The W2ENY filter provides a solution for eliminating adjacent channel QRM by offering a 6-KHz bandpass for AM listening. I have installed the filter in my IC-746 and it works as-advertised. While listening to the AM-guys on 3885 KHz, my radio now better rejects the adjacent-channel AM-QSO's on 3880 and 3890. With the stock Icom filter, all the QSO's
ran together...almost unusable. My 746 also now
excells at Short-wave listening by being better
able to reject adjacent channel interference in the crowded short-wave bands. Color printed
instructions are provided with the filter for
installation. The filter is a small surface-mount
device that may intimidate the uninitiated to
tiny surface-mount technology. However, Bob-W2ENY
walks you through the process: just follow the
instructions and look at the pictures that accompany the filter. In my opinion this filter
enhances both the functionality of the radio while
on AM and improves the value of the radio.
