We are the beta testers. Do not use a SS amp! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just received the X-6200. The receiver is fabulous with good AGC, audio clarity, and warmth superior to the IC-7300, KX3, and others (using earphones). Sensible and clear menu structure. Great on CW reception. Much better AGC than the IC-7300. The display is elegant.

Because of a timing problem, it is difficult or impossible to send some characters (like "C, R, N, Q") with the internal keyer at much above 15 wpm

But it is catastrophic on SSB! Warning: It may destroy your solid state amplifier. Using the hand mike with the radio set at 5 watts, no matter how carefully I spoke across the mic, occasional air pops, (upon certain words with plosive phonemes, like "p, b, t, d, k, etc.")
produced enormous transients. I saw 30-watt pops (on a LP-100A). The output power level wanders even during normal speech. The transmitted audio via the hand mic is distorted --- muffled, restricted, unusable.

Misc: The hand mic will discharge the onboard battery unless the radio is turned "off" correctly --- see the manual.

But my firmware is v.1.0.0. It is my fond hope that updates will cure these and other problems. It's a great receiver.

(Added 07-13-24) Radio Oddity was very solicitous when I reported these faults. They immediately sent a replacement unit, which unfortunately shared the identical faults.

(Added 07-24-24) The first firmware upgrade was released. The upgrade procedure is complex. Sadly many owners have bricked their radios. You must read and carefully follow the steps accompanying the unzipped update. I was successful in updating but, alas, the CW keyer problem remains unchanged and the SSB pop spikes were resolved by essentially turning off the mic --- with the gain full up at 30 you must shout to see any output. The 68 employees at Xiegu are not up to this task.

(Added 11-28-2024) The second upgrade (1.03) fixed the CW timing but the low SSB problem persists unless you use the TX equalizer. By carefully increasing mic gain frequencies at the higher audio bins will transform the rig into a nice SSB XCVR.

Great and fun QRP rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Swapped my Xiegu G90 to a Xiegu X6200 and no regrets. This is an amazing little rig with a surprisingly good and sensitive receiver, a great spectrum scope /waterfall and even a built-in antenna tuner. Also with an external speaker nice warm audio. With only 8 watt I made already some QSO’s through whole Europe with good audio reports. Running v1.03 and works fine for casual usage. An amplifier can easily be connected and with that the X6200 is a nice basestation too. So already a lot of fun with this rig and looking forward to use it in the field next spring. ‘73, Erwin

The rig I’ve dreamed of for 30 years! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I’ve owned a lot of radio’s in the last 30+ years and this is by far the most fun I’ve ever had!

The radio is beautiful, the display is absolutely glorious, the built in tuner works great, it’s packed with so many features I’d have to write a book to cover them all..

So far I’ve used it for SSB phone and Ft8 and it’s working really well, great receiver and filtering seems to be doing its job..

I’ll frequently configure the X6200 into a HT and with just a short loaded whip and rat tail I’ve worked all over the world with it! I’ve also gotten several unsolicited “great audio” reports as well..

Yes this radio has a few warts but I’m confident the manufacturer will iron them out in time, honestly I’m having so much fun I just don’t care.. lol! “73” WW3DX
