Almost perfect, but one very frustrating flaw Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This stand alone audio processor is very close to perfect,it can replace a whole rack full of gear ..12 band Eq,Multi-Band Compressor,Reverb,Expander/Gate,Recorder,48V Phantom Power and even a Roger Beep, should you need one :)
It does most of this perfectly well, and is extremely easy to set up,but with one obvious and very frustrating flaw. The sound is very distinctive,it has what i'd describe as a digital artifact,a hard edge in the lower midrange,a bit like how the old Kenwood ts570 had,a friend described it as robotic. Don't get me wrong,it still sounds good, has outstanding clarity, but has this unnatural sound that's hard to ignore, which really lets it down in my opinion. I did try to reduce this artifact with the EQ and also using the radios EQ and also in SDR software, but its always there, even if you bypass the 12 band EQ and compressor,it's impossible to reduce/remove. I did email UR6QW but he doesn't really know what i'm trying to describe.
It's really frustrating, because it's damn near perfect for someone wanting a single plug and play, easy to set-up TX audio solution that does just about everything. One other thing, the printed text rubs off easily, mine is only around 6 months old,but the lettering in a few areas has disappeared, though no big deal,it shouldn't really happen considering the price.
