Best dual band HT there is! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.

I've owned probably 20 different hand held radios since I've been an Amateur, and this one is the first one that is better than the Yaesu FT-530. I love the fit and feel of the radio and the intermod rejection. Far superior to any other dualbander that I've ever used or seen. It has superior audio and great transmitted audio reports. I have three of the five watt battery packs and two dry-cell packs for my rig, plus Kenwood's rapid charger which works great!

The only thing that I don't like about it is the fact that you basically have to buy the rapid charger, as from the factory, you have to charge the battery pack with it connected to the radio and the radio off obviously. Not good. But with the rapid charger, just snap on a new battery pack and you're all set. The rapid charger takes maybe 4 hours to charge a totally down 5 watt battery pack. The only other thing that isn't so nice is that you have to buy a belt clip for each new battery pack, Kenwood doesn't include them! Oh well, what the heck, they're so cheap it's crazy, just don't forget to order them with each spare battery pack!

Right now, this is the best handheld there is, bar none. The only other dualband HT that I like is the Yaesu FT-530, which is, sadly, out of production. If you want the best there is, get the Kenwood, and add in the rapid charger! I even got a really nice high-quality hat with mine, thanks Kenwood!

Great HT Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a great "basic" radio with all the features I care to have and none of the ones I know I will never use. I have 2 of these radios. I also have a Yeaus VX-1R and both me and my wife prefer the TH-G71A. I broke the battery clip off the battery pack soon after I bought the second one, I called Kenwood and they shipped me a brnad new battery with a new clip. Great service!

Great little radio Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
The version i have is the THG-71E.....but still this is one great little radio ..i recently had the opportunity to test it alongside my commercial motorola ht 600 and kenwood tk 350 radios....as well as being smaller ,more powerful and feature packed, it out- performed both commercial radios in readability and signal strength at uhf.My only gripe would be the SMA connector fitted to this model means i have to use an adaptor when connecting it to my dual band mag mount.Overall the best dual bander i have ever had.

A great Dual Band HT for any ham Time Owned: unknown months.
I have had my TH-G71A for three months and am very pleased with it. It has many features and an excellent instruction manual. I did purchase a MAHA C888 Nicad/NiMH charger with the appropriate battery cup and a MH-PB39 NiMH battery. This sure beats the "wall wart" slow charger for the supplied PB39 Nicad battery or buying the Kenwood Nicad fast charger.

I bought one on eBay as a spare... it receives both in and out of band better than my Yaesu VX-5. Doesn't receive the FRS freqs well, as it won't tune that finitely. Otherwise, great rig! I'm selling my VX-5...

Great Little Radio Time Owned: unknown months.
I researched all the dual-band handhelds on the market before deciding on the G71A. I have not been disappointed. It has a great user interface and many useful features. It doesn't have the problem with intermod that some of the radios that offer extremely wide receive range have. If you are looking for a handheld, this one is great!

Best of the pack! Time Owned: unknown months.
This is my first HT. I did my homework, the checked out several models in person. The TH-G71A won hands down. I used this as a base radio until I could afford my first base unit. Connected to my Astron power supply and a mobile antenna, it hit every repeater in town.

This is one great HT! Time Owned: unknown months.
The Kenwood TH-G71A is a great compact dual bander with many bells and whistles to go along with it. It has CTCSS tone scan, DTMF memory, PC programmable, has a backlit keypad and puts out 6 watts! The radio also had a great speaker for crisp audio and easy menu controls. I highly recommend it!
