Great amp solid performance Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I picked up the old Teletec DXR series 6m brick and this is probably the nicest brick I have ever seen. It has two nice fans on the back and stays cool even when i run it at 150W continuous duty. I key it through a banana plug and ground and it works fine with modern rigs. This thing is an absolute treasure. Picked up at a very reasonable price. I have owned mirage, TE systems and no name brick amps and this one is by far the best. I don't use the built in preamp because I have a 6m LNA built into my Anan 100D. I wish I had the built in meter for this amp. Looks like they planned to put an option for a face mirror on the brick. Would have been a very nice addition to this amp.

Solid, Cool-running, reliable Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I was very fortunate to find this little jewel when a friend decided to sell it. This is a very well built unit. The term "brick" is certainly applicable here. The "Walmart" amps out there with their thin extruded heat sink (sharp edges!) and light weight are no comparison to the heavy castings used for these amps. The finish is a very robust wrinkle coating and the sheer weight of it allows you to run full power (key down) for a very long time before anything gets even warm to the touch. If you somehow happen to overheat it,(I've never come remotely close) a thermal sensor shuts it down. The SWR protection circuit works very well also. There are several very well thought-out features of the unit including an easy connection for a hard keying relay (if you don't want to use RF-sensing) and (my favorite) a VERY tame (receive)preamp that is protected by a bandpass filter. The useless (noizy overpowering) preamps in the Mirage (really MFJ) amps do nothing but slam the front ends of your receivers. The preamp in the Teletec is of a modest 6 to 8db-gain design that overcomes local losses in cabling, filters, relays, etc. plus a bit. Since it's protected by the band pass filter there is no trashy intermod from paging transmitters and commercial repeaters. Note... this *could* be a disadvantage if you want to use your 2-meter radio to also listen up in the VHF police band while the amp is in the circuit. You'll find that by the time you get to 160mhz your radio is pretty deaf. This is a clear advantage, however, if you're going for 2-meter performance. Keep in mind that the bandpass filter is engaged even when the amp is bypassed. So simply turning it off won't bring back those police/fire frequencies. Don't even think about leaving it line with a dual band radio & antenna system unless you have a VHF/UHF splitter. The Teletec will NOT pass 440mhz energy through it. Also, if you're using an external mast-mounted preamp and don't desire to use the built-in preamp it can be disabled through a plug on the back.
This is a very efficient unit in terms of input vs. output, and it provides a very clean signal. The output transistors are absolutely kept in AB2 by a regulated bias supply, not just a few zeners to ground like every other amateur amp. Some of these amps actually go in to class B or C when driven hard.
I'll mention one more thing.... some amp builders are STILL using plain (unfinished) aluminum on their heat sinks. This is absurd. The coeficient of (heat) radiation is several times greater with a black surface.
To conclude; this is a set-and-forget amp that should give years of service. Teletec is really a commercial provider of amplifiers and it is quite evident in this unit. They no longer build this amp, but if you can find one I'd highly recommend it.

This is the one! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Purchased my DXP-L180 during the last cycle and running it at full power today on 6M. Built as solid as a rock and not like your run of the mill solid state linears.

If you run at full power, you should add a fan to keep it cool.

I would not part with mine for love or money.

I you can find one, grab it!

Excellent...IF you can find one Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have serial number 134 and it has performed flawlessly since I bought it over 9 years ago. I would buy another if I could find one.

The only amps that are linear, forget Mirage junk. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Teletec is the only maker of solid state amateur radio amplfiers that are linear. They are the only ones that use active bias circuits. Simple diode bias as used in Mirage, RF Concepts and TE Systems amps simply cannot provide linear operation.

Look at the input versus output power ratings of a Mirage amp, for example. Twice the input does not produce twice the output. This shows their amps are not linear and they have the nerve to advertize that and say it can be used for SSB. Fine for FM or CW but makes a bad sounding and wide signal on SSB.

The Teletec is also very well made and engineered.

Ruggedly built, clean output. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have used both the 2m and 6m Teletec bricks for seven years. They are extremely well constructed and put out a clean signal. I consistently receive unsolicited reports about the quality of my signal when using these amps.

Teletec bricks = superior devices Time Owned: unknown months.
Hi friends. I run the Teletec 2m all-mode DXP-V175 and 6m all-mode DXP-L180 bricks, primarily as the firepower in our rover operations but often in general mobile use. They are very reliable and put out a clean signal. Reviews and commentary in the weak-signal community generally conclude that Teletec amps are the all-around best in design/manufacture/signal quality; that's why I bought mine. Email to Teletec brought a quick reply and a nice mailing. Just my 2 cents (about all I have left 'cause of this blessed hobby :) 73 de N1QVE in NW CT.
