Long waits, poor quality service, unresponsive to complaint! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Since January 2021 I have been dealing with Charles for repair of my Drake TR7 which will not transmit. I have made five 200+ mile round trips to Lake Los Angeles over the ten months he has had my radio and spent over $600.00 in cash (he only accepts cash) and still have the same problem I started with last year. He will not return my phone messages (a machine always answers) nor respond to my emails. The first time he repaired it, it failed shorty after I got it home. After waiting five months in cue a second time waiting for repair (he put it at the end of the line for the second go around and would not accept that he had not properly finished the job). I finally got it back a few days ago. It worked on his table and was DOA when I got home. It is obvious that he either did not properly secure something or he did not identify the root cause of the problem, but instead replaced a resulting failed part.

He will not respond to phone messages or emails. The first time I met Charles we talked about an hour mostly about how he believes that the government has been out to get him for years. He has a my way or the highway attitude and always blames the customer for the problem. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU RISK DOING BUSINESS WITH HIM. If you want to discuss this further, contact me directly at bart@wb6wuw.com.

Revised review Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The prior review was inaccurate.

After the joy of receiving back the TS 440sat, I noted the same problems. Reported poor audio and the internal tuner did not work. Comments to the tech start with "I told you so..."
I found further comments to be meet with hostile remarks and talk of a plane crash. There are further, problems. He has had an amplifier of mine for 7 months, YES 7 months. A recent email said it is ready if I pay more. $1500. I have already paid $1000 for "parts" I did not agree in writing or verbally to pay $2500 to fix an amp. What to pay: others here send an invoice showing an estimate based on checking the amp, then parts replaced, and a fee for their time. You do not just pull out the air, 2500. This amp consisted of 2- 350z. A basic amp that is not worth that kind of money.

Tech gives no invoice. The delay in this review was an attempt to get back the amp even if not repaired. This was the worst business decision in my long life as
Ham. Read what others said, I did not and it has cost me. This experience was just bizarre. I have used eham and it is great. This is a rare exception

King Charles! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've had a few radios repaired and/or upgraded by Chuck and have always been completely satisfied with his work. I don't recall any delays or problems whatsoever.

Dead Radios Revived! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Two electrical strikes left my ICOM 756ProIII without 50 watts of power and CAT Control. Charles had good references from two friends who used him to repair their equipment.

I contacted him and was able to drive to his home to leave the equipment. It took a while to get it repaired, but the radio now works better than when I acquired it used. CAT control was working and power was back to 100 watts. His alignment really made this radio stand up and be heard!

Keep in mind, he's a busy person. So, it will take more time than usual to get something repaired. Be patient! Not only will it be fixed, but for a price that will make you happy you chose him.

Very Poor Experience Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've held off writing this review to make sure I wasn't just angry, but my experience with him deserves a zero.

I spoke with him about repairing an amplifier and shipped it to him as agreed. After multiple attempts at communications, after four months I told him to pack it up and send it back. He variously described multiple lapses in communications due to email problems and his involvement in a plane crash.

When the amp was sent back, he under-insured it and improperly packed it. It came double boxed in two boxes which didn't meet UPS standards, and was filled with some packing peanuts and various, random styrofoam boogers that must have been laying about. The power supply fan was smashed and casing bent, the case scratched, etc. It took me a 60 mile round trip to UPS to have them tell me that there was no way they were going to pay the insurance claim.

He yelled at me on the phone when we discussed it, and has not responded to any emails about his promise to, "make it up to me." He yelled about his plane crash, and he yelled about my Paypal dispute for the shipping charges.

When we took apart the amp to make an attempt to fix it yesterday, there were multiple interior screws missing and ribbon cables unhooked.

I'm glad to hear others had good luck with him, but I wouldn't send him a clock radio at this point. This experiment has cost me hundreds of dollars and I still don't have a working amplifier.

Turner worked on my Kenwood TS-450 and did a great job at a resonable cost. Highly recommended.

repair old ts-440 Time Owned: N.A.
I sent my radio to charles several days before I left on vacation. I was gone about 20 days, when I returned home a email said radio was ready. Sent my money order and the radio returned about 5 days later. The radio works great for a 38 year old radio. The price was very reasonable, the turn around was great. yes I would recomend this repair man to my fellow hams. 5-26-2016 Douglas Flint K7WYR

Excellent provider Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Charles is a bit different, but very honest and reliable. His return rate with phone calls and e-mails is not the best, but when weighed against his integrity, I can wait. He serviced both my TS 940Sat and 2 - TS 440Sat's to total satisfaction. His repair/testing work was timely and early with all three, as well as, accurate with their needs. I've been to his home/shop and find it professional in appearance and quality. Believe me, it is worth the use of his services to find someone of his caliber and knowledge still around.

Great service! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Repaired/bench checked IC-746Pro (3 mo. ago) I plan on keeping until I croak. Good turn-around, very fair pricing, I will send more to him and recommend him to anyone.
