Do All Unit -- But not sure how well it Do All. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The audio filter makes a huge difference when listening to SSB or CW. The hiss and background noise goes away. Makes 20 sound like FM. The Voice Recorder is weak in the implementation. I could only play the msg back once then I would erase it when I tried to play it again, Sam. I didn't see in manual any way to play the msg more than once. Perhaps this is why it is not a voice keyer and why I say it is weak. The voice keyer would make this box kill. I didn't try the SSTV, RTTY, or PSK31 on my test drive. When working w/ the Stereo mode in CW I got into a Japanese(?) character mode for the bandwidth several times. I cycled power and couldn't reproduce it. The two knobs had a lot of lateral shaft play that I didn't care for. The unit is small enough and light enough to pack for a QRP field trip. Runs off batteries (4xAA's) or 9-15vdc external which is nice. I admit I didn't cover all the features but I probably wouldn't use them all anyway. I think if you must go w/ DSP and can get IF DSP in a rig, then do so. If you gotta have an AF DSP add-on then take a look at this one. As I said, I took it for a test drive at a local Ham Radio Outfit and examined the features that I would use and although it makes a difference, the price is a little high IMO. I think I'll wait for the next software rev and for the price to come down before I pull the trigger. In the mean time, I'll break out my Autek and Bencher active filters. I can't justify the $300+ bucks for this electronic 'swiss army knife'. Read the review in Sept QST and/or test drive it for yourself then decide. I hope others will soon post their (more complete) reviews on this device. Check it out and let us know. Best -- David SiValley, CA
