Review Summary For : Hi-Q-Antennas-4 (dash 4)
Reviews: 29MSRP: 425
Description:
The most EFFICIENT HF TUNABLE Mobile antenna is the Hi-Q DASH 4.
Based on these parameters:Frequency= 3.8Mhz,
Base length= 3 feet, base av. diameter= 1.5"' top section (whip)=6.5'with a small corona discharge loop on it's top.
Radiation resistance= .8 ohms, Electrical length=14 degrees, Degree-ampere area=8.9,Overall lenght=13'6" (frpm the groung up).
Ground loss=4.1 ohm, overall antenna 'Q' 92, Shunt needed for 'L' match to 52 ohms=1594 pF.
Coil data: Inductance=77.8 uH, Reactance 1858 ohms, wire size=12 AWG,diameter=4", usable legth=6.4", 40 turns, coil 'Q'=450, Loss resistance 5.7 ohms, RADIATION EFFICIENCY= 7.2% Realtive radiated power -11.1dB, Feed point impedance 11 ohms, Bandwidth for 2:1 SWR= 31 kc.
Since it is tunable the bandwidth can be moved to the desired frequency.
NOTE: These calculation where substantiated by many users of the Hi-Q Dash 4 users.
In our opinion only a 4" diameter MONO Coil will do as well.

Great Antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Installed the HiQ antenna on my 18 wheeler and have received great reports S9 to 20 over on all bands .Have not even hooked up my amp yet,Reception of incoming signals is out standing and over all I am suprised with the performance.Have used (brand X) and was never happy ,but i look forward to many contacts with this antenna! Costly antenna but well worth it!(Get what you pay for) SWR on bands 6-80 is 1.4 or less

None better Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Fellow radio enthusiasts. I purchased a Hi-Q 4-80 RT and followed the on line instructions during installation. My first qso was with a station 150 miles away during daylight hours on 75 meters running 100 watts. My RST was 20db over S9! That is an outstanding report considering the band, time of day, power used, and the fact that verticals do better at longer distances on 75 meters. I have not had a report less than S9. The antenna receives very well.

The quality of construction is very impressive. Absolutely superior to anything I have ever seen. I operate the antenna with a DPDT switch as illustrated in the instructions. It can be tuned to a "flat" VSWR on all bands except 40 meters where it runs 1.7 to 1 due to the shunt coil which is matched for 75 meters. Evens so, the antenna screams on 40 meters as well as the higher bands.

Some may think Hi-Q antennas are expensive, but I wish I would have bought this antenna as my first. I would have saved as much as this antenna costs!

This product is second to none!

GREAT mobile ant Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Called Charlie on a wed afternoon and went to his place 7am next day. HE helped install ant on my semi. that was july 10th, on weekend while in So. Az. made contact to Chicago and N. IL. SAT pm contact to Brazil and Hawaii. this ant is definity better than the Hamsticks and HUSTLER and even the ATAS120 that I had on my semi.

Great quality, design, and support Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I looked at a lot of mobile antennas and considered various mounts. I wanted to be able to access my rear cargo door, so that meant a side mount, a rear mount with a fold over bracket, or a rear mount with a quick disconnect. A side mount meant additional welding to the trailer hitch I added primarily to hold the antenna, so I chose a rear mount. I narrowed my antenna choice to a Tarheel screwdriver or a Hi-Q tunable antenna. Since I plan to operate a lot of 40 meters, the 4 inch diameter of the Hi-Q and the great quick disconnect system won out. I didn't consider a bug-catcher seriously since I wanted to change bands without getting out of the vehicle.

Others has said this antenna is a bit pricey, but if you compare the package price to that of a top quality screwdriver, there is no real difference. When the antenna arrived, I was amazed at the quality of construction, and I felt my money was well spent. Charlie was very accomodating and helpful, and I would highly recommend this product and company.

GREAT SERVICE Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought one of Charlie's (4/80)antennas used on EBAY. When I got it home and hooked it up, there was obviously something was wrong. High current draw when powering the antenna shut down the whole shack powered by an Astron 35A supply. Emailed Charlie and then sent it to him. Three days later, he advised that someone had motorized one of his old antennas. I asked him to bring it up to current specs. Charlie had said he was really busy with hamfests and not sure when he could get around to it.

Within 3 days, the postal lady knocked on my door. The antenna looks like new again and no high current requirements to take down the rest of the shack.

Will post again when I have had a chance to run some RF through it, but as far as service and response time - CHARLIE CAN'T BE BEAT!!!!!

THANKS CHAS!!!!!

Did you say mobile ? Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My first contact on the Stealth was from Nova Scotia to Uganda. I was 5/9+ and was asked 3 times if I was really mobile and actually driving as I talked. This was also my first HF contact ever.

I went from Tech to Extra 2 days before a road trip from Atlanta, Ga to Halifax, Nova Scotia. So I tried out my Stealth 4/80 for the first time while on the trip.

There was snow and ice on the antenna the entire trip and temps down to -7F and the Stealth operated perfectly with the ASAC tuner. I was afraid that it might not tune at such low temps but it worked great and the snow, ice, and road salt did not seem to effect it at all.

I contacted 32 different countries during the 4 weeks that I was in Nova Scotia on 10m to 80m. I also had great local and cross country contacts on 80m and 40m.

I was constantly told for a mobile my signal was excellent. I never made a call that I was not answered and several times there was a substantial pile-up and after one or two calls I was answered everytime. It was amazing!

I was running a 706 and had done all of the bonding and grounding that Charlie and others suggested. I was in a 99 Ford Explorer with all of the EMI and RFI fixes installed. I had the Stealth installed for 3 months prior to taking my exam so I had tweeked all of the "car bugs" prior to the trip.

I would recommend this antenna to anyone. I'm a new HAM, but I don't know how it could get better.

First month of use and first month on HF while on a 2000 mile driving trip and 32 countries contacted; to me that is great and its apparently due to the antenna.

"Booming Signal" Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
That's one report of many similar reports I have received since installing the H-Q-4/160. This antenna is built ruggedly and, with its quick-disconnect base mounted on the trailer hitch of my Dodge Intrepid, comprises one of the sturdiest mounting systems I have seen. I have used DK-3's and the improvement experienced with the HI-Q and its 4 inch diameter coil was immediately and dramatically noticable. I live on the California Coast, and driving home on 40 meters around 17:00 running 100 watts, I was working a station in Texas when a station in New York broke in. Explaining that he was running 100 watts to a vertical, he exclaimed that he couldn't believe he was copying a mobile from the West Coast into New York. We talked for about 15 minutes, 100% copy both ways. On my way home from work on another day, I placed a quick call on 20 to a station in Spain and he came back to me immediately.
Now I am running about 500 watts mobile into the 4/160 which remains as cool as if I were not transmitting at all. The combination of an amp and the HI-Q antenna is one that must be experienced to be believed. I have not had mine long enough to rack up the DX as other reviewers have, but based upon the experiences so far, I have a lot to look forward to.

Up graded from the Dash-3 to -4. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The previous antenna was the 3 inch coil model, but one always wants more! On 80 meters any way. Ordered the antenna and it took about one week for delivery. Nice construction as in all the Hi-Q products. Got the quick disconnects and large capacitance hat. This is a real "attraction" as that is in mounted on a VW Golf.
I have used other "screwdriver" antennas but they have 1 3/4 inch diameter coils. Much less efficiency on the lower frequancies.

Super strong and well built. Good support from Charlie. Fast delivery.
It's nice to be told that I am the loudest moble worked, or loudest signal on band!

A bit expensive but the quality is there.

D' Best ever Mobile HF Antenna" Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Stealth II Series antenna is the best Mobile antenna I've ever had to use so far. Ever since I have had HF privileges I have had numerous Model of Mobile antenna I used like the Multi Band Hustler Resonator to Comet HA4S. The signal I'm getting for the Stealth II-4.0 was not even close to the Rest of antenna I used before. I have a Regular QSO to DU,JA,KH0 Before I installed the Stealth II and they are telling me that the Signal of my Base antenna a A3S Yagi its only Low Level about 25 feet with Barefoot is WEAKER than Stealth II Mobile I'm using.

One thing we have to Look is the quality of the product we are buying Charlie did a good job designing this Stealth II. not to forget I was also using homebrew like high Sierra antenna and the Coil is long, with the short coil i can go from 10-80 meters with going down or to change settings to the antenna.

So if you want a best HF Mobile antenna with 599 to DX report, I recommend the Stealth II-4.0 Mobile Antenna.

Thanks es 73 de K6BF
