Top Notch! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Scott Malcolm is an excellent tech and very consistent. I have had him repair a few things over the years, mostly referred others to him. He is always willing to respond to an email if you have a question and possibly save you shipping the unit.

GREAT SERVICE Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
USING MTS FOR THE FIRST TIME I SENT AN ICOM 761 TO SCOTT FOR REPAIR. NOT ONLY DID HE REPAIR AND REFURBISH THE RADIO HE COMMUNICATED TO ME ALL THAT WAS BEING DONE TO MAKE SURE HE WAS WITHIN MY BUDGET. GOT THE RADIO BACK VIA THE BROWN TRUCK WITH NO INCIDENT AND HIS PACKAGING WAS GREAT. FIRED UP THE CIRCA 1985 RADIO AND WAS BLOWN AWAY WITH THE SENSITIVITY OF THIS CLASSIC ICOM TRANSCEIVER. GREAT JOB SCOTT I WOULD SURELY RECOMMEND YOUR SERVICE AND I WILL BE ON YOU AGAIN IF NEEDS BE.

Great service at a great price! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Over this past year I have had Scott work on three Icom radios for me: an R71A, an IC-751 and recently an IC-751A. In each case his service was excellent and the costs were quite reasonable. I appreciated his candor on the 751, which turned out not to be worth keeping. If you need your Icom repaired, this is the guy to do it. I highly recommend Scott and his Icom radio repair service.

Exellent! Time Owned: N.A.
I contacted Scott to see about sending my R-71A in for a locked encoder shaft, and he told me how to fix it in seconds thus saving an expensive 2 way shipping! Fast response, helpful, and right on target. He really knows his Icom gear! I highly recommend MTS.

Excellent Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Scott has repaired/modified my 751A and 02AT over the years. All service has been excellent and professionally performed, shipped quickly, returned promptly. I would not hesitate sending him anything in the future.

NEVER AGAIN...!!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
About 2 years ago, my venerable Icom 751A refused to transmit...based on recommendations gleaned from the Icom Reflector, I communicated with MTS in advance, & sent the rig to him.

I'd included an extra RF board that I bought through eBay, & was as detailed with him as possible as to what ailed the rig. Several months later I received the radio back after having been "repaired"...it STILL did not transmit...and to make things worse, it didn't receive very well, either.

I opened everything up, & lo & behold, the optional filters had NOT even been transferred to the eBay circuit that he'd installed for me! (they were still soldered onto the board he replaced, i.e. the one that was loose).

How in the world he ever managed to check-out the rig "...100%, & ascertained that it was working A-OK" was beyond me...

Anyway, more communications...turns out it was all MY fault that the thing wasn't up to snuff! Seems I never communicated the issue(s) well enough for him to comprehend. OK...the rig gets mailed to the coast YET AGAIN...

It comes back, & all is well on AM, but on SSB there is TERRIBLE distortion on LSB, and the CW offset, i.e. the receive frequency vs. the transmit frequency, is OFF by a WHOPPING 2 KHz!!!

And to add insult to injury, the back panel of the rig is caved-in about 1/2" at the heat sink area, symptomatic of someone having DROPPED the rig off a test bench (oddly enough, there was NO damage to the packaging/dunnage that contained the radio).

More communications with the proprietor: seems it was ALL MY FAULT AGAIN...! The problem, he ascertained, was the memory board---and that he's offering to SELL me a new one for less than $100.00!!!

I thought to myself, "Does this EVER end...?"

I now am the owner of a useless, broken-down transceiver, with a hole in my budget for "...repairs"(!) and postage in mailing the thing back & forth to Washington State TWICE that could probably have purchased me a decent used replacement 751A on eBay...

THANKS for absolutely NOTHING, oh pal o' mine...!!! Fool me once, shame on you---fool me TWICE, shame on ME...

Excellent work Time Owned: N.A.
After performing flawlessly for 3.5 years, my IC-756 Pro III suddenly went dead and a small plume of smoke came out of the top grill. When I asked a number of friends who they would recommend for Icom repair, the largest number of recommendations were for Scott Malcolm. Based on that, I shipped the radio to him for repair.

Turnaround time from the day I shipped it until the day it returned was 39 days. When the radio arrived at MTS for delivery, no one was there to take the package, resulting in a 7-day delay. Three more days were added at the end. After repairing the radio, Scott kept it for 3 days to make sure all was well. I believe that was time very well spent.

Bottom line: Scott did a great job. The Pro III works and looks as good as new. The radio was returned in a sealed plastic bag with the front panel and cabinet all nicely polished. It looked so good that I checked the serial number to make sure he didn't send me someone else's rig. Thank you, Scott.

Very good work and fast! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Recently, I had the priviledge of having MTS to repair my Icom 2720h. I emailed him and asked what was involved with the repair. He stated what he had seen to go wrong with that radio over the years of his involvment with them and gave me a very accurate estimate. Then, he added, that he normally also realigned and completely test the unit. That was enough for me. He made the repairs in a timeley fashion. And, now, I'm back on the air. Thanks agian, and good job was done and very much appreciated.

One of the best Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recently contacted Scott about an issue with a IC-37 for which he advised me what repair was possible via email at no charge. This reminded me that I never reviewed the repair work he did for a IC-T81A.
I bought that radio on Ebay and when I received it I found that it would not operate on the US ham bands.
I sent it to Scott who determined that a previous owner had attempted to open up the frequency coverage on the radio and encountered what he called an "oops." He had to rewire the diode matrix even where in some cases the PC board traces had been lifted or destroyed during the abortive upgrade.. He had the radio less than a week and the total charge was less than $100. Great service and support. Recommend MTS for service on any Icom radio.

Scott is the best! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Not only did Scott repair rigs for me in the past, but I recently contacted him to help me diagnose a problem in my setup. Scott was prompt to reply via email, gave excellent information, and was generous with his time. I would disregard the negative comment recently posted - clearly Scott is a performer and 99% of his customers are delighted with his service. High integrity and fantastic service.

BTW, Scott did not charge me for his recent technical support.

Scott provided excellent turnaround time and easily demonstrated his technical depth by quickly repairing my IC-2100H and brought it up to spec. Scott could have charged my than one hour of his time like so many other repair facilities that I interviewed. It's a pleasure to work with someone who has integrity.

Thanks so much, Scott.
