This is Icom's best so far. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have had many radios in the past e40 years and I have never had one like this radio. I will keep this one for awhile. Try it and you will like it.

The Best So Far. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Having worked my way through many of the highly rated transceivers, including the best of Yaesu and Kenwood, I have to say the Pro 2 is probably the "best" of the lot when everything is taken into consideration.

Here's my experience over the past couple months. A quiet, hot receiver, very very easy to learn and use, almost immune to adjacent channel interference, unbelievable filter flexibility and shaping, a fantastic real-time band display, a terrific auto notch, some of the best AM short wave listening around, and portability. So it doesn't have 2m...I have that covered so no big deal.

I have absolutely no intention of moving to anything else or needing anything else for a long time. Thanks ICOM.

Some Improvements Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I replaced my IC-756 PRO with a PRO 2. These were preceded by a Yaesu which spent more time at the repair facility than my shack.
I work all modes and it works great on all of them. Probably the greatest change was the automatic return to the main VFO when you turn the split off. Two ham family she likes it too. Some day some one will make it possible to copy RTTY on the other VFO, would be nice for SPLIT RTTY. The CW and Phone memories are nice for repeated calls to the dxpeditions.

Incredible Rig! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is the first new HF transceiver I've bought in almost 20 years. My previous rig was an ICOM 740, which I still have and will never sell. For those of you that have had more high end radios, you are probably more equipped to review and compare the 756 Pro II than I am. But I do know a well-designed piece of equipment when I see one, and this transceiver is that. The operation is very intuitive, without having to remember arcane keystrokes to access menus and submenus. The incredible display provides access to lots of useful information. The DSP technology is amazing. The noise reduction feature alone is worth the price of admission. And I never imagined how useful the real-time band scope would be. ICOM's current promotion that reduced the price and threw in a free PS-125 power supply convinced me to take the leap. I'm glad I did.

Wheat from chaff Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bells and whistles aside, this radio allows me to copy weak signals amid QRM/QRN that my previous top-of-the-line transceiver (from another manufacturer) could not do. That's what matters.

What a fun Radio to Operate! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Fun? Now theres a term we dont hear enough... especially since this is a hobby! All i can say is this radio is very fun to operate and has a quality receiver as well. Im primarily a phone operator and transmit audio sounds great .Even with the supplied hand mic i get compliments. Receive filtering seems infinite and i like not having to add filters. Also included is the txco and recorder...both standard. Wow a DSP that doesnt sound like someones underwater! This has the best DSP ive ever heard. An adjustable NB and guess what? IT WORKS! The scope/screen is just plain awesome. for my $$ theres not a rig that matches the Ic 756 pro II in my opinion.

IC756PROII-IC756PRO-1000MP MKV Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Due to a happy circumstance, I have come to own and use all three of these radios. No doubt about it, all three are super rigs, although to my old ears, the difference between the 756PRO and 756PROII is incremental at best. I am amazed that "reviews" (afer all, these aren't really reviews, just owner/user impressions)can give one radio stellar ratings and put the other one in the pits. What you get with each radio is a different operator style, but in terms of raw transmit/receive capabilities, all three are better and "smarter" than most of us operators!

Here is what I like about the MKV:

1) Super transmit audio; no need for aftermarket doodahs. The tranmit EDSP and the MD-100 desk mic give great audio reports.
2) Great ergonomics, at least for me. The main VFO knob is the biggest and smoothest since the 75A4 with 4:1 reduction. I like large radios that are comfortable and easy to control, although I still think the bottom controls (including RF output) are too small.

3) Width and Shift controls: I find these very effective and, for me, more intuitive to use for QRM control than ICOM's passband tuning.

What I love about the 756PRO series:

1) The most user-friendly radio I have experienced; very little learning curve to even master the most advanced features. No doubt the MKV is a more complex radio.

2) Super noise reduction DSP: The continuously adjustable control allows just the right amount of NR DSP.

3) Compact size: If you are looking for a lot in a modest size, this radio is astounding.

4) THE DISPLAY!
5) THE DISPLAY!!
6) THE DISPLAY!!

I love all these radios and have had no quality control problems: zero. I am amazed at the seemingly endless litany of problems that some people seem to have. Oh well I guess I'm just lucky!

Cheesy construction Time Owned: N.A.
Negatives:

1) Cheesy controls. They feel like those on a $1,000 radio. Makes me wonder about the quality of the rest of the construction.

2) Digital filters have steep skirts, but, have that "harsh" digital sound.

Positives:

1) Beautiful display.

I'll keep my Mk-V

A thorough accomplishment Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My initial reactions to this rig are very positive. I have operated the PRO2 on ssb and cw and even on AM, and I also did some contest operating this past weekend; I find the various combination of selectivity and noise-reduction aids to be exemplary. The rig is intuitively easy to use, with lots of depth to its versatility. I've used other pan adaptor-added rigs, however the display on the PRO2 is so exacting and precise that it sets a new standard of excellence for frequency displays -- a pleasure to utilize. All the features add up to a rig that, in the whole, is greater than the sum of its parts -- real synergy, in other words. I also find the audio response in the receiver very acceptable -- and I have highly tweaked ears in this regard. It is possible to adjust the overall contour of the audio passband by selective use of the IF passband tuning options. On the transmit side, I'm using the Heil iCM mic, which, along with passband shaping options, gets me very good audio reports. I can't imagine having more rig in as tidy a package. Incidentally, I've been holder of K1REX since 1961. This is my first ICOM rig. I feel fortunate to be the owner of such a fine radio.
