I agree-what's the point Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
For $300 (its new price) this PS is way overpriced. A standard switching PS, but it only has a (too short) cord with the 6 pin Molex plug on it, so you can power your HF rig with it, but nothing else. Save $200 and buy the Astron or Samlex switcher instead and power all of your equipment with it.

what's the point? Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Got this free with a 746-pro from HRO, right out of the box it makes the high-pitched whine. Ok, that's a (fairly common, from the comments here) problem problem with this one, I'll send it back and get a new one that doesn't do this, but the loud fan is ridiculous. That's a design issue that shouldn't have gotten out of the door at Icom.
I'm going back to using my Astron, hopefully somebody will buy this from me once I get one without the whine.

Works OK Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Got my PS-125 free wihen I bought my IC-746pro (Given a choice I would have preferred the matching speaker.) Anyway, since I had it I decided to power the 746 with it instead of my MFJ-4225. Have had no problems or noticeable electical noise with it and it is certainly quieter (audibly) than the MFJ-4225 whose fan runs quite loudly and all the time.

So now my 706 and 746 each have their own independent supply.

I hear it too! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just got my FREE PS-125 with my IC-746PRO. Right out of the box I heard a high pitch sound comming from the back. I like how it matches the radio but it would be nice if the front feet would extend like the radio's do. I guess I will send it back and get (buy) a very reliable ASTRON.....

You get what you pay for! (sometimes)

Gives good service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
About 2 weeks ago I destroyed my 5+ year old PS-125 when I accidentally unplugged it from mains whilst my IC-706MkIIG was still switched on. Apparently most of the active components were destroyed in the process.

For a short while I considered going for a cheaper PSU like an Alinco, but I then realised that the PS-125 has given me good service for many years, mostly whilst running RTTY, so I decided to order another one. It is not a cheap PSU, but it is giving me good service in the shack, with no perceptible hash or RFI noise on the HF bands (unlike its predecessor PS-85!).

Fan noise is a bad fan! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had one with a noisy fan, replaced the fan and end of noise. It came as a freebie with my 746pro. No other problems. I did have to order the fan from Icom and it took them 3 months to get me a new one. Apparently they are always selling out of these fans. HMMMM I wonder why????

Mine works fine! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I got my PS 125 as a promo with a new PRO III in Dec of '05.
I've read the reports about excessive fan noise and hash, and have not experienced either in the five months of daily use. The P/S is righ next to the PRO III and is very quiet. Maybe someone at Icom was listening. The postings on this fan problem go back several years, and apparently someone fixed it.

My only (albeit minor) gripe is the lack of a foot to raise the p/s in line with the Pro III.
I made one out of a piece of aluminum and painted it black. Works, but should not have had to resort to this mod on a piece of equipment in this price range.

For me, and with this radio, it's a keeper. Like most of the earlier postings, I always have an Astron faithfully standing by (with anderson power poles on all of my power leads) to fill in if needed.

Loud Fan Noise Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Has the loudest fan I have ever heard in a little PS. Add this to the one in the Pro3, and you have to "turn up the volume".

I hear it too Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just got one with my 746pro and I also hear the high pitch sound. Was hoping in some ways no one reported the same.
