Expensive and Noisy! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
The only reason I have this power supply is because it was FREE when I bought my Icom 746PRO. The unit has loud fan noise as indicated in previous posts and has a horrible high pitched "whine" that is incredibly annoying. It powers the rig fine, looks good, and is compact. However, I would not recommend buying one, it is definitely not worth paying for. The Astron supplies are much quieter, much less expensive, and reliable as a brick.

I am having trouble with this power supply. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I bought this power supply with my 706MKIIg in March of last year. It worked fine for about six months, after which it just quit. Upon throwing the power switch the indicator light would come on briefly and then fade. I sent it back to ICOM for repair. I was returned to me in working condition. I used it, as before, very infrequently and never with any other current demands except with the 706. Just last week (Jan 2004) it died again with the same symptoms. I have sent it back again to ICOM for repair. I will try it once again. If it is going to fail again I hope that it does so within the warranty period of my original purchase. If it does so, I will send it back and request a full refund. I cannot recommend this power supply, although my brother in Tennessee says that he has a friend who has had one for some time with no problems. If I do get my money back (btw, too expensive) I will buy an Astron power supply.

No problem Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have no problem with my PS125. Working 100% with my IC746. Only a negative thing : very expansive for a switching supply. In Italy more then 400 Euros !!!

You can fix it...sort of. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have no idea why Icom did not:

1) give it a longer power cord. Not everyone wants to have power supplies in slots where more useful items such as radios should be

2) give it a flip-up foot so it can stay at the same angle as the rigs it supposedly matches. When show visits how well it "matches" you will have to take your hand and hold it up for them.

3) put a quiet fan in it. Instead they put a fan in it that comes on whenever, and when it does, you'll know it even if you are in the back yard mowing the lawn. I did do the KK5DR mod and it COMPLETELY quieted it down so that noise is no longer any factor whatsoever. That fan may stay on for a bit longer when it cycles, but if you can't hear it, so what?

I would't buy it again! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Ok, this power supply works well, looks pretty and matches my PROII, but I can't believe how could Icom design and put in the market a power supply so noise! I mean very very noise, absolutely unacceptable.

As someone said, the cooling fan stays on most of the time, even in the receive mode.

I didn’t keep it in may shack even two days!

Bad Fan Already! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Update.

I have had this unit for about 1 and a half months and the fan has gone bad already (Very Noisy, Bad Bearing).

I called Icom and they were un-willing to just send me the fan.

I was told that I have to send the entire unit in for repair.

So I ordered a replacement fan from Mouser Electronics (www.mouser.com) Stock # 664-D6020MX-12V, 60x20 mm, 14.5 CMF, and 25.7 dB-A for $9.62.

I couldn't see paying to send it back to Icom to have them install another fan when I could order a better (and hopefully quieter) one from Mouser.

I doubt I will be buying any more Power supplies from Icom.

I'm pleased with this supply, but it did take a little while to get used to the fan noise.

Nice Match to the Icom 756 Pro, but it would have been nice if they supplied it with a flip down foot so it would match the angle of the 756 pro.

A little pricey but looks nice.

If I had it all to do over I would probably buy an Astron power supply.

Does the job, but noisy! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've owned this supply for about three weeks and I'm considering replacing it with a different supply. It is a small, good looking supply that matches the Icom IC-756 PRO and PRO II. It does a good job of supplying the amperage needed to run a 100 watt HF transceiver with no problem. The problem is that the cooling fan comes on even in the receive mode and even without the transceiver turned on. When it comes on it is very loud and is a definite distraction. Interestly, it isn't even warm when it comes on, so why is it running. I would not reccomend anybody to buy this supply unless you don't mine a loud cooling fan.
