Fantastic limited space directional antenna 10 met Time Owned: unknown months.
Being a ham for over six years in an area that does not allow towers this antenna has been a godsend for me. The antenna has three elements on a nine foot boom that weighs around ten pounds. The elements are only eleven feet long. The antenna works nicely in the same 3 foot tripod and Radio Shack rotor that held my two meter yagi. I have had the antenna on the roof of my house at about 35 feet for 5 months now. It is rated 500 watts cw and 1000 watts on ssb. I have never used more than the 100 watts that my FT1000MP puts out, so I can not comment on power handlig. The antanna is well constructed and easy to assemble. The gamma match rod is kind of flimsy but does the job - this antenna sells for only $120. Since the antenna elements are shortened the bandwidth is limited compared to a full size antenna. The useable bandwidth is about 400 khz and the elements are adjustable so you can center the resonant frequency at four different spots. I just uses my internal antenna tuner and have no problem covering the whole ten meter band though. The antenna performs very well. Compared to my half wave dipole at similar height I receive signals about 4 to 6 s units better! Signals that are barely above the noise on the dipole are usually around S9 on the Mosley MB-10. I have had some nice long qso's on ten meters since the band is open on into Europe (from the Midwest) with no problem. I highly recommend this antenna for anyone who would like a directional antenna on ten meters and can only work off their roof, go portable, or maybe just do not want the expense of a tower.
