Bullet proof radio! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned three of these radios for nearly ten years. I have never had a problem with any of them. They have all the essential features and many extras at a great price (especially now in the used market). One of these, installed in my truck has suffered a lot of abuse. With the exception of the little button-door coming off, it has performed flawlessly. And they are easy to clone using a standard 8-wire computer network cable.

True commercial grade. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
At a hamfest in early 90s I and two friends saw the 2400 for the first time. One of the fellows said it was exactly like the commercial radio his company used. After a bit of discussion we each laid down the money and brought one home. Mine is the only one to have a problem and it was due to a near hit of lightning that zapped receiver RF transistors. Very fast turn around at Yaesu
and extremely fair price.

Radio ran night and day for eight years on packet,
no backlight problems or other bugs came along. It sets there now only occasionally used as I lost interest in VHF several years ago.

Was in the local Yaesu commercial radio shop a few years ago and saw the commercial model open on a workbench and a brief examination confirmed it was indeed the same radio.

Worth mentioning I have heard a few owners say they only get about 24\28 watts output. I noted
the commercial radio was running the Bird up to
40 watts out. Mine averages about 37 watts.

Saw one used recently for $110 and was tempted to
buy it at such a bargain price. Have had my share
of Icoms, Kenwoods, Standards etc that all had
at least one or two shortcomings....but can't fault the 2400.

Terrible Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I know there are good and bad in all things. I felt compelled to write after reading the other Remarks.
I bought one of these radios new and it spent more time flying to Calif. then working. It went to yaesu 4 times of which 3 times I paid for the repairs. I finally sold it on ebay for parts. The ICOM 2100 I replaced it with is solid as a rock.

Great Radio! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought this radio new in '93 when I got licensed. A little big by today's standards but nonetheless a great radio. Used it in the truck on the farm, for packet, in the shack and everywhere else. Never had the need for repairs, the radio has stood up to -20 and 110 temperatures without fail. This radio's been dropped, shorted, spilled on, you name it. Great radio, wouldn't trade it for the world!

Excellent Radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
FT-2400H not sure what the M model is. Bought it new in "93" when i got my license. It has been my primary ragchew rig in the shack since then, almost ten years and going strong. This radio stays on 24/7 and because of which the backlights have been replaced a couple times, and the memory battery was replaced a year ago cause the radio kept forgeting its memories. Parts have been inexpensive, the most expensive repair was the $4 battery last year. Can't say that i will ever sell this rig, if you come across a 2400H at the swapfest and need a good 2m rig give it a look parts are still available straight from Yaesu. Mine still shows 50 watts out on my bird wattmeter after almost ten years of daily warm ups with the finals, HI HI.

Good performer Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Nothing but good service. Backlights went out only because we ran it 100% of the time on packet. Easy to modify for out of band (for testing purposes ONLY!) Gets mighty warm on high power. I set mine up for 5, 10, 25 watt levels for low, med, and high power. No one could tell the difference on the other end. Unit draws 3 amps less current and runs cooler. Great radios, mil spec approved and all that. Five star rating.

Solid radios Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Although this radio has long been out of production, I though it worth adding a review as this well made rig is likely to be on the used market for some time. I've owned 2 2400s for 8 years or so, and both have been very reliable, solid performers, among the best-built rigs Yaesu produced. If you come across one, give it a serious look.
